Letty Larkspur and Cordelia Grey escaped their small Midwestern town for New York’s glittering metropolis. All Letty wants is to see her name in lights, but she quickly discovers Manhattan is filled with pretty girls who will do anything to be a star…

Cordelia is searching for the father she’s never known, a man as infamous for his wild parties as he is for his shadowy schemes. Overnight, she enters a world more thrilling and glamorous than she ever could have imagined—and more dangerous. It’s a life anyone would kill for…and someone will.

The only person Cordelia can trust is Astrid Donal, a flapper who seems to have it all: money, looks, and the love of Cordelia’s brother, Charlie. But Astrid’s perfect veneer hides a score of family secrets.

Across the vast lawns of Long Island, in the illicit speakeasies of Manhattan, and on the blindingly lit stages of Broadway, the three girls’ fortunes will rise and fall—together and apart. From the New York Times bestselling author of The Luxe comes an epic new series set in the dizzying last summer of the Jazz Age.

Anna Godbersen’s Luxe series is one of my all time favorites.  I was skeptical about Bright Young Things but it turned out that I had no reason to be.  I adored it and the sequel is now on my list of must-haves.

Cordelia Grey, Letitia Haubstadt, and Astrid Donal have nothing in common except a love for the big city of New York.  That one thing turns out to be all they need.  These three girls will get into more trouble than they can handle but luckily they have each other.  Hopefully that will be enough to get them through the rough times.

Sorry about the lame synopsis but I don’t want to give anything away.  Also, I’m pretty sure I couldn’t describe even half of what happened in one paragraph.  Bright Young Things was full of everything I could possibly want.  There was forbidden romance, betrayal, friendship, and family.  I don’t know how Anna Godbersen managed to pack it all into one book.  All I know is that I loved everything about it.

The best thing about Bright Young Things were the characters.  Each one had such a distinct personality and I felt like I knew them all.  Most of them were people I would have loved to have as friends but just like with any good book there were enemies.  I couldn’t guess who was going to be the bad guy and I didn’t see the ending coming at all.  It was deliciously unpredictable.

Overall, Anna Godbersen brought the 1920s to life.  I can already tell that this is going to be a fantastic series and I can’t recommend it enough!

First line:  It is easy to forget now how effervescent and free we all felt that summer.

  1. I have been waiting, oh so impatiently, for this one for what seems like forever! Great review and thanks for not giving anything away. I know that Godbersen must have some kind of scandal or twist in there that’s going to catch me off guard!
