St. Vladimir’s Academy isn’t just any boarding school—it’s a hidden place where vampires are educated in the ways of magic and half-human teens train to protect them. Rose Hathaway is a Dhampir, a bodyguard for her best friend Lissa, a Moroi Vampire Princess. They’ve been on the run, but now they’re being dragged back to St. Vladimir’s —the very place where they’re most in danger. . . .
Rose and Lissa become enmeshed in forbidden romance, the Academy’s ruthless social scene, and unspeakable nighttime rituals. But they must be careful lest the Strigoi—the world’s fiercest and most dangerous vampires —make Lissa one of them forever.
Vampire Academy is not a book I expected to enjoy. That is why I am one of the very few people who hasn’t read it, until now, that is. I was persuaded by a couple of my blogger friends to give it a try this summer and I’m very glad I did. I’m not sure it will become a favorite of mine but I greatly enjoyed the first book in the series.
Rose Hathaway knows that it is her job to protect Lissa Dragomir. They may also be best friends but that just means that she has the perfect excuse to always be around her. St. Vladimir’s Academy is not safe for Lissa but they have no choice but to return. Rose isn’t sure how things are going to work out but at least she will be getting training on how to protect Lissa from Dimitri Belikov. But can Rose protect Lissa from herself?
While I did really enjoy Vampire Academy I had some issues with it. Rose was my main issue. She was really badass when it came to talking but when it came to fighting she couldn’t actually do anything. I hope all the training in this book pays off in the next one. Otherwise I really liked Rose. She was pretty hilarious. Lissa was really sweet and such a good best friend. Dimitri was sexy! I can’t wait for more of him.
The plot was pretty fast-paced. I was definitely hooked from the beginning. The ending was a little predictable but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book. It was a quick, fun read and I am glad that I finally read it.
Overall, Vampire Academy is a promising start to the series. I can’t wait to see what happens next. Paranormal lovers, if you have not checked out this series yet because you are a skeptic like me, do it! It’s worth it!
First line: I felt her fear before I heard her screams.

I wish I was done reading this book! Then I could talk about it with you =P I just started and it’s pretty good so far. I LOVE this feature. So so so much.
Dude! This series totally rocks! I just can not get enough of it!
Love this series so much 🙂 Glad you finally started it!
I love when you read a book you think you were going to hate and you didn’t. Glad you enjoyed, it is one of a my favorite series!
I felt similarly about this series, but I actually read them all in a weekend after I started the first book (yeah, I’m a sadly fast reader which sucks sometimes!) and loved them. Well, loved/hated them, in a good way.
I loved this book!! It was hard to put down. I liked Roses character the best she seemed like a go getter. Can’t wait to read the rest!!
I loved this book! It was really hard to put down. I can’t wait to read the next one!
I love the VA series! I was hooked from the beginning, and it only got better from there.
I totally fell for the series with this one. Not with Rose necessarily but with the vampire world and with LIssa and Christian, who are awesome characters.
I love finding out what Lissa’s gift is and how Rose ties into that.
I’m glad you fell in love with the series in later books!
Lovely review 🙂
