Blogger Interview: Sophia from The Book Basement!

Today I have an interview with a relatively new book blogger, Sophia from The Book Basement.  I chat with Sophia on Twitter quite a bit and I love this girl.  =)

What are you like outside of blogging?

I’m really academic and outgoing, I suppose. I do a lot of extracurriculars, dealing with anything from math to science to band concerts, all the way to volunteer groups. Oh–and I also have a total obsession with English accents and British slang.

What book changed your life?

To be honest, I haven’t really read a book that has completely changed my life or mindset, mostly because I tend to stray from emotionally heavy books. But if I had to choose one, it’d probably be The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, but not in the usual life-changing way. Rather than having a super heavy reason, it’s just that The Hunger Games is the book that initially opened me up to the whole genre of YA, and from there, I started to love reading young adult literature. It’s not life changing as in, “I’m a better and more perceptive person after reading this,” but without The Hunger Games, my blog would not exist. And to me, that would kind of suck.

What made you decide to start your blog?

Before I created my blog, I stalked The Story Siren. I found the whole concept of a book blog so cool and I was in awe of all the information Kristi had to offer to her readers. That was the only blog I knew of back then, and once I saw that there were so many other book blogs, I thought I’d join in. Reviewing the books that I loved and interacting with other readers sounded really fun.

What blogs/bloggers inspire you?

Ooh, I have a lot of answers for this one… You’re one of them, obviously, haha. I’m also really fond of…

Lauren of Lauren’s Crammed Bookshelf – She’s so nice and has the most quality reviews, like, ever. I always look at her reviews for book recs.

Erica from The Book Cellar – She’s also really kind and totally hilarious on twitter. Especially when you and her have those little “fights.”

Bailey from IB Book Blogging – Obviously, my vocabulary has suddenly disappeared, because I’m just calling everyone nice. But it’s true, though, since everyone is nice. Plus, I’m an IB student as well! Bonus points for Bailey!

Melina at Reading Vacation – Younger + passionate about reading + successful = INSPIRATION!

Oh—and, of course, Kristi from The Story Siren – I think of her as the Queen of YA book blogs.

What are your goals for your blog in the future?

Really, I just want to maintain it and post regularly for as long as possible. I tend to kind of suck at that. Making more blogger friends wouldn’t hurt either.

Do you love or hate your mailman?

Haha, I don’t have any reason to hate him. So love, it is!

Favorites:

-Book of all time: Divergent by Veronica Roth. My friends are getting sick of me gushing about it all the time. Though you can never go wrong with a Harry Potter book either.

-New release: Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

-Genre: YA dystopian. ^-^

-Place to Read: My bed. Unfortunately, sometimes I’ll wake up with a book on my face or tangled in my sheets.

-TV show: The only TV show I’ve been consistently watching is American Horror Story.

-Candy: M&Ms!

-Drink: I have a slight obsession with Dr Pepper.
