Emme, Sophie, Ethan, and Carter are seniors at a performing arts school, getting ready for their Senior Showcase recital, where the pressure is on to appeal to colleges, dance academies, and professionals in show business. For Sophie, a singer, it’s been great to be friends with Emme, who composes songs for her, and to date Carter, soap opera heartthrob who gets plenty of press coverage. Emme and Ethan have been in a band together through all four years of school, but wonder if they could be more than just friends and bandmates. Carter has been acting since he was a baby, and isn’t sure how to admit that he’d rather paint than perform. The Senior Showcase is going to make or break each of the four, in a funny, touching, spectacular finale that only Elizabeth Eulberg could perform.

Take A Bow is another fabulous contemporary from Elizabeth Eulberg.  It’s a quick, fun book that will leave readers with a smile on their face.
Emme, Sophie, Carter, and Ethan are quite a mix of main characters.  Chapters alternate between their point-of-views and it’s a very cool way to show the different types of people that attend a performing arts school.  While they all get their own chapters Emme and Ethan really feel like the main characters.  Emme is a little shy, super kind, selfless, and very talented.  However she doesn’t really see her own talent at first. She’s always been in Sophie’s shadow but that changes their senior year.  Ethan is a big reason for the change.  He is very messed up but he truly cares for Emme and he helps here a lot.  He’s my favorite character.  I loved watching him grow.
The rest of the characters were great.  Carter was not your typical child star.  He was surprisingly down-to-earth and real.  Sophie was the quintessential diva and she was a total bitch.  I wanted to see her grow but sadly that did not happen.  She was a very static character but she did help Emme grow.  The band however were amazing.  Jack, Ben, Emme, and Ethan together were hilarious.  Jack’s stories about the bands future were so funny. He and Ben were definitely necessary comic relief.
The plot was surprisingly fast-paced for a contemporary.  Everything was leading up to the senior showcase and college auditions.  Between practicing for those and the actual events, the book flew by.  There was also the requisite romance and it was so sweet.  It wasn’t a huge focus of the book though.  It was really subtle and made the book even better.
Overall, Take A Bow just reinforces my love for Elizabeth Eulberg’s books.  I can’t wait to see what’s next from her.

  3. I just finished Take a Bow yesterday and I agree about the characters-they were fabulous. I enjoyed Prom & Prejudice, but I think this book made Elizabeth Eulberg one of my favorite authors for chick lit:) Great review; mine will go up on my blog one of these days.

  4. Oh this looks really cute! I’ve read Prom and Prejudice so I’m eager to get my hands on this one! So glad to see good reviews about this one!

  5. I cannot believe that I still have yet to read Take a Bow. A year ago, I was so pumped to read it and now look where time has taken me (into a hole). Your review has just rejuvenated my desperation to read Take a Bow. Have to go and get my hands on it, like right now.

  6. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this author! I love her characters and the story and anything with music and theater is something I’d love.

It’s awesome to know secondary characters are not stereotyped, though I wouldn’t expect it from this author.

    Lovely review 🙂
