Blogger Interview: Jessica from Shut Up! I’m Reading

Today I have an interview with the lovely Jessica from Shut Up! I’m Reading.

What are you like outside of blogging?

Kinda quiet and socially awkward, especially around people I hardly know. Around people I DO know I’m pretty much exactly like my online persona: always trying to crack jokes and talking about books and music.

What book changed your life?

Hmm. I have four. The first would be Twilight, for turning me into a reader. (I know, I know.) The second would be The Hunger Games, for making me close a book and think for the first time ever. The third is Looking For Alaska, again, for making me think even MORE than The Huner Games, and for introducing me to contemporary. The fourth would be Paper Towns, for making me look at people in a different way.

What made you decide to start your blog?

I had been talking to a few other book bloggers on Shelfari. They made it sound like it was so much fun, and I was already writing reviews for a homeschooler paper, sooo…it began.

What blogs/bloggers inspire you?

Several! You’re one, Katie, because you always seem so on top of your blog and everything that comes with it, and that’s something I haven’t seemed to master yet. Steph Su from Steph Su Reads is a big one too. I love her well-written, insightful reviews! Maggie from Bibliophilia–Maggies Bookshelf for the same reason, as well as her wonderful opinions. And of course Forever Young Adult, because they are hilarious.

What are your goals for your blog in the future?

Probably just to keep going in the direction I’m headed. I’m pretty happy with my blog as it is, and I feel like I’ve got a good balance with it, even though I’ve had to cut down on posting to write.

What is your best book blogging moment?

Probably when I got an email from a mom telling me how much her daughter and her friends love my blog. Apparently they get together and discuss the books I review. Plus, the mom had gotten to read more books for herself because my reviews helped decide what she could let her daughter read, instead of pre-reading every book. So cool!

Favorites:

-Book of all time: Can I say all of John Green’s? Cause those.

-New release: Grave Mercy!

-Genre: Contemporary

-Place to Read: My couch.

-TV show: Buffy. Er, or maybe Veronica Mars. Or Firefly. One of those.

-Candy: Peeps! (I’ve got like 20 boxes stored in my closet right now.)

-Drink: Iced latte with soy milk and toasted marshmallow flavoring from Sheetz.

  1. When you say Alaska changed your life do you mean Looking for Alaska by John Green? I’m looking up that and Paper Towns and adding them on goodreads lol. Great interview! I’m gonna head over to your blog now and check it out =)

  2. I absolutely adore this blog title! Lol I want it so badly because I feel as if it fits every reader out there! I also love her proud blogging moment with the mom e-mailing her. I would hate to have my mom have to pre-read every book I want to read, so it’s cute that she puts that much trust in you for her daughter! Very sweet and kind. I’ll definitely be checking out your blog!
