Miranda wakes up alone on a park bench with no memory. In her panic, she releases a mysterious energy that incites pure terror in everyone around her. Except Peter, a boy who isn’t at all surprised by Miranda’s shocking ability.

Left with no choice but to trust this stranger, Miranda discovers she was trained to be a weapon and is part of an elite force of genetically-altered teens who possess flawless combat skills and powers strong enough to destroy a city. But adjusting to her old life isn’t easy–especially with Noah, the boyfriend she can’t remember loving.

Then Miranda uncovers a dark truth that sets her team on the run. Suddenly her past doesn’t seem to matter…when there may not be a future.

Dan Krokos’ debut novel is one you don’t want to miss!  False Memory is an action-packed tale full of mystery, intrigue, romance, and betrayal.  This book will have you hooked from the first page and dying for more when you finish!
From the very start of this book I was hooked.  I’m a sucker for books with any type of memory loss.  However, False Memory is not like any of those other memory loss books.  This story is one that is completely unique and so dang addicting.  Miranda doesn’t remember anything about her life other than her name.  There is someone who does know about her life though and while she doesn’t want to trust him, she sort of has to if she wants to find out what happened to her.  Unraveling Miranda’s life is harder than she thought it would be and every time it seems like she has something figured out, she’s thrown for a loop.  Her life is one mystery after another and believe me when I tell you that you will never see the truth coming.
Miranda is a great heroine.  She’s lost, alone, and confused but that doesn’t slow her down.  She’s snarky and sarcastic and just full of sass.  She’s untrustworthy but she’s not stupid.  She knows when she needs help and she’s not afraid to admit it.  She also happens to have some amazing abilities that include but are not limited to kick ass fighting skills.  Her friends are also pretty awesome.  Peter, Noah, and Olive are like Miranda in that they have some of the same abilities she does but they are all very different individuals.  Peter is the leader of the group; calm, level headed, always thinking ahead.  Noah is a sweetheart but he’s very misguided and he definitely doesn’t think things through.  There is a very clear reason why he is not the leader of the group.  Olive is a bit of a mystery throughout the book.  She’s quiet and reserved and I felt that she was the least developed of the group.
The villains are what make this book so awesome though.  There are two different types of villains: the lackeys and the higher-ups.  The lackeys do the dirty work of chasing and trying to capture Miranda and her friends.  They really aren’t that great as villains because they don’t think for themselves but they are still quite creepy and evil.  The higher-ups are the really scary people.  They are the ones behind the creation of Miranda and her friends.  They need them for some unknown purpose and they are willing to do anything to get their hands on them.  And once they do get their hands on them they have some very sinister ideas of what to do with them.  While quite a bit is revealed in this first book there is still enough mystery to have me very eager to read the next book!
The story itself is easy to get into and hard to get out of.  False Memory is a fast-paced book that will have readers on the edge of their seats for most of the book.  Every time you think something is falling into place and that you’ve got the story figured out, you get thrown for a loop.  Believe me, I had some guesses about how things were going to go down and I was so far off the mark.  I love a book that keeps me reading and keeps me guessing and False Memory definitely did both.
Overall, False Memory is a must-read for 2012!  I think I can safely say that this is going to be one of my favorites of the year and the sequel is one of my most anticipated for next year!

  1. I really liked Miranda! I totally got how confused she was, how she didn’t know who to trust, even herself at times, and I loved how she asked for help.

For a guy author, he did an awesome job with the romance I thought 🙂

    Lovely review 🙂
