What price is too high to pay, even for love? When Jace and Clary meet again, Clary is horrified to discover that the demon Lilith’s magic has bound her beloved Jace together with her evil brother Sebastian, and that Jace has become a servant of evil. The Clave is out to destroy Sebastian, but there is no way to harm one boy without destroying the other. As Alec, Magnus, Simon, and Isabelle wheedle and bargain with Seelies, demons, and the merciless Iron Sisters to try to save Jace, Clary plays a dangerous game of her own. The price of losing is not just her own life, but Jace’s soul. She’s willing to do anything for Jace, but can she still trust him? Or is he truly lost?

Love. Blood. Betrayal. Revenge. Darkness threatens to claim the Shadowhunters in the harrowing fifth book of the Mortal Instruments series.

City of Lost Souls reminded me why I adore The Mortal Instruments series.  After reading the fourth book I thought that Cassandra Clare should have ended the series with City Of Glass.  After reading this one I’m really glad she didn’t.  This time the story is switched up and things are totally crazy.  The story is fast-paced and it’s impossible to put the book down once you start reading.

City Of Lost Souls is full of action, romance, and high stakes.  The characters are better than ever, the romance is steamier, and the surprises are even more shocking.  Read this one now if you haven’t already!  I’m very eager for City Of Heavenly fire now.  I can’t wait to see how things are going to end!

  1. Sebastian was the one who surprised me. He was on my hate list until this book. Lol he’s still not on my most lovable list, but this book made him almost human. I thought it was great character development for him.

  2. I still have to check out this series! I’ve been hearing lots of hype surrounding it, though (especially with the movie in production), so I’ll have to get to it soon. 🙂 Glad to hear that you enjoyed this!

  3. This does sound like a wonderful series, with the high stakes and romance you mention. I haven’t begun it because like you said the books aren’t consistently good.

Should I watch the movie first, to get me hooked?

    Lovely review 🙂
