Top Ten Tuesday: Halloween Books!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. For more information and a list of past and future topics, go here.

1. Bleeding Violet by Dia Reeves – This book is extremely odd and extremely creepy.  Perfect for the Halloween read!

2. Ten by Gretchen McNeil – Ten is like a horror movie in book form.  So chilling and totally surprising.

3. Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter – This one isn’t as creepy as some books but it’s still perfect to get you into the Halloween spirit.

4. Velveteen by Daniel Marks – A ghost haunting her killer along with some other crazy stuff.  This one is definitely creepy enough to get people in the Halloween mood.

5. The Devouring by Simon Holt – This is definitely one of the scariest books I’ve read.  It will have you leaving lights on all night and checking under the bed.

6. Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick – Ashes and it’s sequel, Shadows both scared the crap out of me.  They are some of the scariest, goriest books I have read.  And what’s worse is that they are more realistically scary than the previous books listed.

7. Slice of Cherry by Dia Reeves – This book terrified me.  It’s sort of a companion to Bleeding Violet, which I mentioned above.  However this one has a very different story.  This focuses on two sisters who love to torture people.

8. Dark Inside by Jeyn Roberts – I wouldn’t really call this one horror but it is pretty dang scary.  It’s post-apocalyptic and I’m not sure if I would want to live in the world that’s left in this book.  This is one of those books that is scary because it’s actually kind of plausible.

9. Enclave by Ann Aguirre – This one is more dystopian than anything but it still really creeped me out.  The Freaks (kind of like zombies but worse) were terrifying, at least to me.  There was just something about them that really freaked me out and I found myself reading this one only in the daylight surrounded by people.

10. Hold Me Closer, Necromancer by Lish McBride – This one isn’t really scary at all but it does get you in the Halloween spirit.  It’s full of awesome paranormal creatures, morbid humor, and an awesome main character (who is a necromancer.)   It’s a lighter read for Halloween but still perfect.

Are there any books you would recommend reading for Halloween?

  1. I definitely want to read Ten, I’ve heard a lot of great things (and seen it on so many lists today!). I haven’t read any of these, but The Devouring in particular sounds pretty scary!

  2. I really want to read Hold Me Closer, Necromancer! It sounds like I’d definitely enjoy it. But then I do always get Tiny Dancer stuck in my head after reading the title…
    Great list! Happy Tuesday 🙂

  3. I agree with all of these! Unfortunately, I don’t really have any book suggestions besides a book I’ve started reading. It’s called Sanctum and so far is quite creepy.

  4. I’m about 40 pages into Hold Me Closer, Necromancer, and I know I just need to finish that one. Creepy villain plus humor = home run. Thanks for sharing your list!

  5. I LOVE creepy books and I think there are quite a few books that are perfect for the holiday! Nancy Holder’s Possession series, Katie Alender’s Bad Girls series. Have you read any of these?

    You’d like them I think 🙂
