Short Story Saturday: Pieces of Eight by Shannon Delany and Max Scialdone

Short Story Saturday was created by Lauren at 365 Days of Reading.  I can’t guarantee that I’ll post a review every Saturday but I will post one as often as I can!

I am currently reading Two And Twenty Dark Tales: Dark Retellings of Mother Goose Rhymes.

book cover of Two And Twenty Dark TalesShort Story: Pieces of Eight
Author: Shannon Delany and Max Scialdone
Anthology: Two And Twenty Dark Tales

Summary: Pieces of Eight is a retelling of the Mother Goose nursery rhyme, Sleep, Baby, Sleep.

My thoughts: I have to say Pieces of Eight might just end up being my favorite story from this collection.  It’s a bit longer, has a lot more depth, and the writing of Shannon Delany and Max Scialdone was fabulous.  Also, this one wasn’t quite as dark as the other stories in the book and I really enjoyed the little bits of humor mixed in.

Overall, I haven’t read a full length book by Shannon Delany yet but after loving this short story I will definitely be picking up her books.

  1. It seems to me a lot of these stories would’ve rocked if they’d been given more page time.

Love it when they’re funny too 🙂

    Lovely review 🙂
