Blogger interview: Kelsey from The Book Scout!

Today I have an interview with Kelsey from The Book Scout.  She is one of my oldest blogging friends so you should definitely get to know her better!

What are you like outside of blogging?

Outside of blogging, I am very outgoing and love spending time with my friends. As a senior in high school, my schedule is very busy, but I also love just staying home and reading or watching TV.

What made you decide to start your blog?

I started my blog the summer before I started high school. None of my middle school friends liked reading and I wanted a place to share my thoughts on all of the books I was reading.

What is your best book blogging moment?

There have been so many amazing book blogging moments for me! I love that I have been able to attend BEA twice and the fact that I have connected with fellow readers around the world is another plus. I love meeting bloggers and authors in person!

To help some of the newer bloggers: what have you found to be the best way to network and get your blog out there?

Twitter is a great way to interact with and meet new bloggers. Also, just reaching out to other bloggers is a great way to spread the word about your blog and get involved with the blogging community. I think the best thing to do is just be yourself; reach out to as many people as you can, and interact on Goodreads, Twitter, etc.

What book turned you on to YA?

I remember discovering the YA section in my library and I picked up the first Princess Diaries book by Meg Cabot. I loved how relatable the character of Mia was and soon found myself working my way, rather quickly, through the rest of the section.

How many books do you own?

I probably own a few hundred. I have shelves all over my room, plus boxes full in my attic. I have no idea what I am going to do in college because I will miss having all my books around me!

What are some blogs you recommend reading?

Makeshift Bookmark, Lauren’s Crammed Bookshelf, YA Book Queen, The Literature Lion, Addicted 2 Novels

Favorites:

Book of all time: Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

New release: Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

Genre: YA (especially contemporary and historical fiction)

Place to Read: My bed!

TV show: Game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, The Vampire Diaries, The Big Bang Theory

Candy: I love dark chocolate!

Song: I am currently obsessed with the Pitch Perfect soundtrack!

  1. I also love to read in my bed. It’s so peaceful and away from all the chaos downstairs. πŸ™‚ And eeep! You’re a The Big Bang Theory fan? Me too! It’s one of the best shows on right now! Also, you are soooo lucky to have been able to go to BEA twice! I’m making it my life goal to go to a massive book event at least once. πŸ˜€

It’s lovely to get to know more about Kelsey! Thank you so, so much for sharing this interview with us, Katie! Your questions and Kelsey’s answers were very fun to read. πŸ™‚

  2. Yay for Game of Thrones~ I’ve only seen the show but am definitely going to read the books asap. I second that comment about being able to go to a book event twice – you are so lucky!

Thanks for this interveiw, Katie! The Book Scout looks like an awesome blog that I look forward to reading regularly.

  3. Mmmmm dark chocolate is AMAZING! I love it way too much.

I’ve never read Game of Thrones but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. It’s just so daunting. All those pages scare me! Haha. πŸ™‚

  4. As a newer book blogger, I often wonder about technical issues, like design. How did you guys learn the ropes? One silly question that I can’t seem to figure out is how to make headers at the top of the blog page with things like about me, review policy, etc?

I have never read the Game of Thrones, but I keep hearing so many good things. I love the Princess Diaries…classic!

  5. I love how lots of high schoolers are blogging, that really is awesome and it lets authors know what teens think of their book directly.

BEA truly is a highlight for all bloggers πŸ™‚
