Can you love someone too much?

Travis Maddox learned two things from his mother before she died: Love hard. Fight harder.

In Walking Disaster, the life of Travis is full of fast women, underground gambling, and violence. But just when he thinks he is invincible, Abby Abernathy brings him to his knees.

Every story has two sides. In Beautiful Disaster, Abby had her say. Now it’s time to see the story through Travis’s eyes.

I doubt this will come as a surprise to any of you who read my review of Beautiful Disaster but I absolutely did not like Walking Disaster.  To be completely honest, I didn’t really expect to like it but I wanted to give it a shot anyway.  I gave up a little past the halfway mark so here’s my review of what I did manage to read.
Walking Disaster is the exact same story as Beautiful Disaster, just told from Travis’ point-of-view.  I hated Travis in the first book and the only real reason I wanted to read this one was because I was hoping he would be redeemed.  Yeah, that didn’t happen.  I wasn’t sure it was possible but I actually like Travis even less now.  He’s crude, mean, and kind of dumb.  I just didn’t care for him at all.  Also, his logic for doing things (like trashing his own room) is just plain idiotic.  Who does that?
Also, Walking Disaster made me hate Abby even more too.  Seeing her from Travis’ point-of-view made me  wonder what any guy ever saw in her.  To be honest, she was a bitch.  What she did with Travis and that other guy (can’t even remember his name right now) was so trashy!  Who goes out with one guy yet sleeps with another and then goes out with the other guy again?  I wanted to slap her just as much (maybe more) than I wanted to slap Travis.
The only upside to Walking Disaster is that readers finally get to find out why Travis gave Abby the really stupid nickname of Pidgeon.  You find out in the first few pages though so you really have no reason to read the rest of the book since that’s really the only new information you get from this book.  Oh and if you thought the meaning behind the nickname would be profound and meaningful, think again.
Overall, don’t waste your time or money on this book seeing as it’s just a complete rehash of the first book.  I have officially given up on Jamie McGuire.

  1. Beautiful Disaster was a great dramatic mess! I enjoyed it, but for probably all of the wrong reasons. I hated Abby, and I was on the fence about Travis. I want to read this one, because I also wanted to see if Travis was redeemed. It sucks that he’s not, but I still have this morbid curiosity about what’s going on in that man’s head!

  2. I loved this series. I loved how flawed Abby and Travis were. I also liked Walking Disaster more than Beautiful Disaster. I loved getting into Travis’ head and seeing what he was really thinking and feeling. Also loved the Epilogue in WD which is new to Abby and Travis’ story and goes well beyond the Epilogue from the first book. So sad to see you didn’t like this series. I have noticed people either love or hate these books. There really is no inbetween.

  3. I do like this series but I never really came around to loving it. I really do think there were some big hits and misses in both of these books and honestly I want to read about Travis’s brothers in future books but only because I feel they are really different than Travis.

Sorry you didn’t like this series. Thanks for the great review though.

  4. Wow, you’ve got guts to give this a try after reading Beautiful Disaster! I just read that one a few weeks ago and found it to be a train wreck; I’m not even going to attempt seeing things from Travis’s POV. This guy is psychotic, and saying it’s because he was messed up by his mom’s death when he was a kid is zero excuse. His brothers didn’t appear to be anything like him! OMG, can you believe he tattooed her NICKNAME on his arm instead of her real one?!?

  5. I really want to read this, people are either rating this 1 star or 5. Very love hate haha. I am curious to see which side I would take.

  6. I think that if you hated Beautiful Disaster then you will probably hate Walking Disaster.

I think that Abby and Travis are a mess! But that said I really enjoyed BD and I loved Walking Disaster.

And I would strongly encourage anyone to get WD just for the epilogue. Crazy!

I also didn’t find that WD was a complete rehash of BD. IT had been 8 months (and 70+ books) since I’d read the first book. So there was a lot I didn’t remember. Plus I loved that we got new scenes that Travis was in (but Abby wasn’t in). I also thought that epilogue was shocking.

  7. I will definitely never read these books… I hate when an author tries to make an agressive psycho look attractive… it’s not. From everything I’ve heard about this book it scares me that when younger people read this they will think acting like that is ok…. it’s so not!!! And calling a girl Pidgeon just sounds demeaning. Is she not worth her real name or something? I thought we (as a society) were past this stuff!!

  8. I didn’t hate Beatiful Disaster, but it did make me kind of uncomfortable. I was hoping Walking Disaster would help me understand Travis more, but it really didn’t, and I definitely liked him less after read WD. He’s such a baby – throwing tantrums and stuff.

I hate what Abby does between Travis and Parker (I think that is the other guy’s name).

But, I can’t say I hated either book. I can certainly see why people would dislike this one and BD though. And why people would like them both.

Oh, also, the reason for the pigeon name was lame 🙂

  9. Wow. I KNOW it’s bad when you give it a negative review. I really hated the first book, but I requested this one anyway, just to see. I ended up not even trying to put myself through the torture of being in Travis’s head. And what gave the author/publisher the idea that rewriting THE EXACT SAME STORY and publishing it again was a good idea? It just seems greedy to me.

  10. I actually really liked Beautiful Disaster but I hated Walking Disaster! I agree with so much of what you said. This book made me DESPISE Abby! What a bitch! I also feel like she had so little dialogue in WD. Combine that with the bitchiness and I was seriously wondering what anyone saw in her. The lack of dialogue made me feel like I didn’t even know her.

  11. I so didn’t like Beautiful Disaster and when I saw that Travis was getting his own book, I seriously wondered..why? Just why? I was also hopeful that he would redeem but obviously not.
    Sorry you were disappointed!

  12. wow.. this is just the same story but told from the guy’s POV? why is it that for the books I WANT a second book with the other POV, it never happens, but for books I don’t care much about it does. I tried reading Beautiful Disaster but couldn’t get into it.. like you, I found both characters to be annoying and Travis to be the epitome of douchiness as will as borderline psycho.. at least you still tried reading the second book, even if you hated it.

  13. Crap, when you like the guy even less in the subsequent book, it’s not good! I’ve read really diverging opinions on this one, people either love the bad boy or they hate him.

I think I’d be more likely to share you opinion on this one.
