BEA Recap: Day Three | 2015 Edition

Friday was the final day of BEA and I knew from the start that it was going to be crazy.  Six of Crows, Soundless, Black Widow, etc.  Pretty much all the books were being dropped or signed.  I knew it was going to be another mad dash to make it to the front of the signing line.

Friday 1

My day started off even earlier than the previous day because I wanted to get there early enough to get a ticket for Jennifer L. Armentrout’s signing of Scorched.  The exhibits didn’t open until 9 but the ticket booth opened at 7 and I wanted to be there with time to spare.  I was lucky enough to get a ticket and then I headed to my group of fellow bloggers and started making a game plan for the day.  I had already gotten Six of Crows the night before so I was able to cross that off my list but I really wanted Black Widow and Soundless.  Penguin Teen tweeted that they would be dropping Soundless (very limited quantity) first thing at 9 and it totally screwed up my plan to go straight to Disney.  As soon as they let us in the exhibits I made the dash to Penguin, managed to get Soundless and Reawakened, and then headed to Disney for the Black Widow signing with plenty of time to spare.

Friday was pretty much just signings for me.  Kelly Armstrong, Kim Liggett, Marieke Nijkamp, Heidi Schulz, and more.  It was nice to just hang out in some lines and spend some time chatting.  I wandered through some booths and talked to some publicists but I was really feeling pretty lazy by this point.  I killed time until I had to go to the Penguin Teen Luncheon with Sarah Dessen and Carrie Ryan.

Friday 2

The luncheon was held at the Javits and it was just 15 to 20 bloggers along with Sarah Dessen and Carrie Ryan.  It was pretty much a dream come true for me.  I don’t know if you guys know this but this blog would not exist without Sarah Dessen.  Getting to be in the same room as her was enough for me but then we also got to listen to her and Carrie Ryan talk about their books and their writing and all that fun stuff.  It was just the icing on the cake to get her new book, Saint Anything, signed at the end of the lunch.

Following lunch it was just Jennifer L. Armentrout’s signing for Scorched and then I was out of there.  I headed out again with Nikki, Octavia, and Christina, as well as Cassi from My Thoughts, Literally.  We all had plans to go to the blogger dinner at Bourbon Street Bar and Grille that Tiffany from Mostly YA Lit organized.  It was a very chill event with delicious food and drinks.  (I had my first ever Hurricane and now I want another.)  After that we just spent the night hanging out back at their hostel because none of us wanted to say goodbye.

Clearly, I had a pretty fantastic time at BEA this year.  I am so thankful to the publishers, authors, and other bloggers that gave me this awesome opportunity.  The conference will be in Chicago next year and I can already tell you that I will be there!

How was your experience with BEA?  Are you planning on going to BEA 2016 in Chicago?

BEA Recap: Day Two | 2015 Edition

Day two of BEA was the first full day of the exhibits and I was up bright and early.  I headed to the convention center to meet up with my blogger friends and plan out my day while I waited in line.  I really had no plans for the day so I had to take some time to figure out what books I really wanted.

ernest cline

Passenger by Alexandra Bracken was the big signing of the day and as much as I wanted it, I decided I’d probably forgo that because the line was going to be insane.  Instead I headed over to Penguin Random House to get a ticket for Ernest Cline’s signing of Armada.  I was lucky enough to be pretty early in the line and from there I spent some time wandering the floor.  I actually got extremely lucky and walked by the Disney Hyperion booth right as Alex Bracken was finishing her signing and since there were books left, she was nice enough to sign one for me.  I couldn’t believe my luck!  My day was made from that point on.

Following the morning rush, I didn’t really have many plans.  I wandered by Little, Brown right as Carrie Ryan was signing her middle grade book, City of Thirst.  I also happened to be right there when they started the signing line for Libba Bray’s Lair of Dreams.  Once that signing was over I just wandered the floor some more before heading out with Nikki from There Were Books Involved, Octavia from Read. Sleep. Repeat, and Christina from My Life In Books.

The three of us headed to some random pizza place for $0.99 pizza (which was wonderful) and got some frozen yogurt after that.  Then it was time to head to The Strand’s Rare Books Room for the Fierce Reads event hosted by Macmillan.  There was, once again, a photo booth, some awesome authors/bloggers/publicists, and food and drink.  It was so awesome getting to meet Sandy Hall, Leila Sales, and Josephine Angelini, not to mention getting to see Leigh Bardugo and Marissa Meyer again.  As if the party wasn’t awesome enough, the lovely people at Macmillan gifted us with goody bags containing the latest releases from all the authors in attendance and the authors were nice enough to sign their books.  I definitely did a happy dance when I got Six of Crows and was able to get it signed.

By the time we were all ready to head out, The Strand was pretty much kicking us out.  It was so much fun that none of us wanted to leave.  I braved the subway by myself, made it home safe, and completely passed out.  I had big plans for Friday and I knew it was going to be an early morning!

BEA Recap : Day One | 2015 Edition

Last week I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to attend Book Expo America once again.  This was my fifth year in attendance and you’d think by now I’d be used to the craziness but that is so not the case.  Besides a minor meltdown early on in the week, BEA was a blast.  It was great seeing some familiar faces and meeting lots of new ones.

I arrived Sunday night but the festivities didn’t officially start until Wednesday.  That’s not to say I didn’t do some bookish things before then.  I managed to make it to Jenny Han’s launch party for P.S. I Still Love You and it was so much fun.  There was a photo area and champagne and goodies.  Following that I headed over to the Rooftop Party where I had the chance to mingle with some fellow book bloggers, authors, and some publicists.  It was a very chill evening that was just perfect to start the week off.

The first day of the conference was actually very new this year.  It was only a half day and the exhibit floor didn’t open until 1 PM.  That’s not to say that I wasn’t there super early.  I knew I needed to get my badge and the lines to get on the exhibit floor were going to be crazy so I just figured I’d hang out there for the morning.  It was a great opportunity to hang out with other bloggers and introduce myself to some new people.  It was also a wonderful time for the awesome guy behind me to totally photobomb my selfie.

My mission for the day was to be lucky enough to get one of the 100 copies of Truthwitch that Tor Teen brought to the conference.  I can’t even begin to tell you how crazy it was in that signing line.  First off, tickets were being handed out as soon as the exhibit floor opened so it was a mad dash to get there and get one of those. (Also, no matter what you’ve heard, I’m pretty sure no one got trampled in the rush for Truthwitch tickets.) Once that was in my hand I was able to wander the floor and know that I would be getting a copy when the time for the signing came around.  It was awesome getting to meet Susan Dennard.  She was a complete sweetheart.  After her signing I felt like I had accomplished my mission for the day and spent some time reading before I had to leave the conference for the day.

Following the time spent picking up books and wandering around the exhibits, I headed to the Bourbon Street Bar and Grille for the Epic Reads party.  There was a photo booth, tons of bloggers and authors, food and drink, and goody bags.  The highlight was definitely getting to meet Patrick Ness and Aaron Hartzler.  Both of them were so nice and I look forward to reading their new books, The Rest of Us Just Live Here and What We Saw.

I was already exhausted and knew I had an early day so I didn’t stay all that long at the party.  I grabbed a goody bag, took the subway home, and spent the night organizing my books from the day.  Once that was done I crashed and attempted to prepare myself for the madness of day two!
