Book: Oh My Gods by Tera Lynn Childs
Rating: 5 Stars
Release Date: May 1, 2008
Summary: A modern girl’s comedic odyssey in a school filled with the descendants of Greek gods.
When Phoebe’s mom returns from Greece with a new husband and moves them to an island in the Aegean, Phoebe’s plans for her senior year and track season are ancient history. Now she must attend the uber exclusive academy, where admission depends on pedigree, namely, ancestry from Zeus, Hera, and other Greek gods. That’s right, they’re real, not myth, and their teen descendants are like the classical heroes -supersmart and superbeautiful with a few superpowers. And now they’re on her track team! Armed only with her Nikes and the will to win, Phoebe races to find her place among the gods.
*****
Phoebe is not a happy teenager. Her perfect senior year just went down the tubes when her mom announced that she was getting married to a near stranger and moving them to Greece. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she can only bring 6 boxes of stuff. How can she possibly fit her life in 6 boxes?
Things get even worse when Phoebe finds out the secret behind the school on Serfopoula. All the students are descendants of the Greek gods and have immortal powers. Powers that Phoebe doesn’t have and that can be used against her, especially by her new evil stepsister, Stella. And to add to all the stress Phoebe seems to be falling for the perfectly wrong guy.
Will Phoebe survive the year as the only normal student at the Academy or will she be smoted by the gods?
Wow. I just have to say that I loved Oh My Gods. While the whole romance part of the story wasn’t new, the Greek god aspect was. I loved Phoebe and all the wonderful characters in this book.
Phoebe’s story was hilarious. I found myself sitting up til three in the morning reading Oh My Gods and laughing out loud and parts. It was just so great. Phoebe and all her friends were just so original and lovable, even the bad boy Griffin. He might just be my new fictional crush.
Overall, this is going onto my favorites shelf. I can’t wait to read the second book, Goddess Boot Camp and I am looking forward to so much more from Tera Lynn Childs. If you haven’t already read Oh My Gods, you should go out and find yourself a copy. It is the perfect book for a lazy summer day or even a break from school.
