Summary:
Nimira is a music-hall performer forced to dance for pennies to an audience of leering drunks. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to do a special act – singing accompaniment to an exquisite piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new life. In Parry’s world, however, buried secrets stir. Unsettling below-stairs rumours abound about ghosts, a mad woman roaming the halls, and of Parry’s involvement in a gang of ruthless sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. When Nimira discovers the spirit of a dashing young fairy gentleman is trapped inside the automaton’s stiff limbs, waiting for someone to break the curse and set him free, the two fall in love. But it is a love set against a dreadful race against time to save the entire fairy realm, which is in mortal peril.
Nimira was swept away by the sophistication of Hollin Parry. She had no clue what she was truly getting herself into. He was hiding so many things from her that put her in a quite a bit of danger. Luckily, she also got to meet Erris, a lost fairy prince trapped inside the body of an automaton. It definitely made the book interesting and unique from other fairy books that I have read in the past. I guess it’s really just a unique story, not just from other fairy books but from all books.
The one thing that bugged me about Magic Under Glass was how easily everything fell into place. It seemed a little too perfect for me. I mean, Nimira fell in love with a robot without even being able to really talk to him. I don’t think I would do that and it didn’t seem very realistic. Then again, the book is set in a different age and world than the one we live it so it made it a little better.
Other than that, I thought the book was wonderful. There was a good mix of characters and some good surprises. There wasn’t really one character that I liked more than another and that’s because they were all really complex. They weren’t what they seemed and that makes for great books. =]
Overall, Jaclyn Dolamore’s debut novel is something to look out for. It’s full of magic, suspense, and a love story unlike any I have read before. There was not a dull moment to be had in this book.

Nice review! I’m so glad that you gave it a good rating because I just pre-ordered it and was sort of worried. Hm, I hope that not-talking relationship works out well…
Ooh, awesome review!
I’m getting this book for X-mas, so now I can’t wait to read it 🙂
This sounds fabulous! It’s definitely on my list for Christmas! The cover and synopsis make me think of Jane Austen with a magical twist!
I’m so glad to hear you liked it! That means I can still want it really bad without feeling guilty. 🙂
I too don’t really like books where things are a little too convenient. However I do like the sound of this one. And I just love Nimira’s name =)
I want this book! Glad you enjoyed it. 🙂
