It's been three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life.
And three years he's spent wondering why.
When their paths cross again in New York City, Adam and Mia are brought back together for one life-changing night.
Adam finally has the opportunity to ask Mia the questions that have been haunting him. But will a few hours in this magical city be enough to lay their past to rest, for good - or can you really have a second chance at first love?
SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read If I Stay, don’t read this review.
Gayle Forman has done it again. Where She Went is a completely different book than If I Stay but I still adored it. In fact, I couldn’t put it down. I read straight through this one. Adam and Mia’s story only just begun with If I Stay.
It’s been three years since Adam has seen Mia. Three years since she walked out of his life and took all the joy with her. Now, by chance or fate, he is in New York for one night only and he runs into her. It’s finally time to find out where she went and where she’s going.
Originally, I didn’t think If I Stay needed a sequel. I kinda liked that it was left open at the end. Of course, when I started Where She Went, I changed my mind. Adam and Mia’s story was only part of If I Stay. Where She Went told the whole thing.
Where She Went is told from Adam’s point-of-view and it was pretty heartbreaking. His whole life changed with the accident too but nobody seemed to notice or care. When Mia left, it just got worse. It wasn’t anywhere near as devastating as If I Stay but I still found myself crying at parts.
Overall, Where She Went is a brilliant follow-up to If I Stay. Fans of If I Stay will not be disappointed.
What others are saying about Where She Went:
Respiring Thoughts’ review: “Generic plot, forgettable characters and prose, plus an overabundance of flashbacks, are what defined Where She Went in my eyes.”
Down the Rabbit Hole’s review: “While it maintained the beauty of the first novel, it fell just shy of my expectations.”
Finding Bliss in Books’ review: “This novel is just impossibly lovely, especially when you take into account all the ways it really should have gone wrong.”
I just got If I Stay last week. I am really looking forward to reading it!
I can’t wait to read it and I’m glad it didn’t disapoint! Great review and awesome first line!
This is totally going to make me cry! I can’t wait to read it. I loved If I Stay so much!
Glad you liked it! 🙂 I’ve been wanting to read it. I seriously need to read If I Stay again. The cover for Where she Went is beautiful!
Yay SO glad you liked it! I was scared it wouldn’t be as close to as good as If I Stay. Brilliant review 🙂
I agree with you. I didn’t think If I Stay needed a sequel, but now that I does, I am so pining to read this one! I am ridiculously jealous of everyone who gets to read it before me!!! ;o)
Im so excited! If I Stay had me laughing and crying. I could not put the book down, in fact I read straight from beginning to end in one night! I hope the sequel is just as good =)
I know this is an old post (I followed the link in a new post of yours), but I just had to comment. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a book 2 so much more than a book 1 in a series. I liked If I Stay, but I LOVED Where She Went! I’m so glad to see you did, too! I don’t re-read many books (too many great books, not enough time. 😉 But I have read this one twice! 🙂
