First Line Friday (8)

First Line Friday is a feature created by me, where I post five first lines from some books that I have on my TBR pile. You guys then get to vote, based on the first lines, for the book that I will read next!  =)

Title: Fire
Author: Kristin Cashore
Release date: October 6, 2009

Larch often thought that if it had not been for his newborn son, he never would have survived his wife Mikra’s death.

Title: Beautiful Darkness (Caster Chronicles #2)
Author: Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
Release date: October 12, 2010
I used to think our town, buried in the South Carolina backwoods, stuck in the muddy bottom of the Santee River valley, was the middle of nowhere.  A place where nothing ever happened and nothing would ever change.

Title: The Future Of Us
Author: Jay Asher & Carolyn Mackler
Release date: November 21, 2011

In 1996 less than half of all American high school students had ever used the internet.

Facebook would not be invented until several years in the future.

Emma & Josh are about to log on to their futures.

Title: Tempest (Tempest #1)
Author: Julie Cross
Release date: January 17, 2012
Okay, so it’s true.  I can time-travel.  But it’s not as exciting as it sounds.

Title: Under The Never Sky
Author: Veronica Rossi
Release date: January 3, 2012

They called the world beyond the walls of the Pod “the Death Shop.”  A million ways to die out there.  Aria never thought she’d get so close.

So based on these first lines which book would you like me to read and review next?

  1. I can’t help you there. But if I had to pick one, it would be one of the last three choices! I think this time you gave us too many choices to choose from. Hahas…good luck!

  2. I’ve read Tempest and Fire… and like them both. My brother thought Future of Us was boring, so I didn’t even bother, lol. So… all? 😛

  3. Wow. I’ve read several of those, and I’m slightly biased in what I think you should read.
I want to grab you by the shoulders, shake you, and scream at you to read Fire.
But my vote for best line is actually on the two books I haven’t read: Tempest, and Under the Never Sky.

  4. I didn’t see “Yesterday’s Gone” by Sean Platt and David Wright, so, as a native of SC (shhhh, DON’T tell anyone!), I vote for Beautiful Darkness 🙂

  5. Jackson’s attitude in Tempest shines from the very first line.

And you gotta love Ethan Wate from Beautiful Darkness – that was an awesome book. Loved all the new characters introduced there.
