When you can see things others can’t, what do you do when someone’s watching you?
Everybody knows about Clarity “Clare” Fern. She’s the psychic girl in school, the one who can place her hands on something and see hidden visions from the past.
Only Clare would rather not be a celebrity. She prefers hanging back, observing. Her gift is not a game to her.
But then someone starts playing with her head . . . and heart. Messages and gifts from a secret admirer crop up everywhere Clare turns. Could they be from Gabriel, the gorgeous boy who gets Clare’s pulse racing? Or from Justin, Clare’s hopeful ex-boyfriend who’d do anything to win her back?
One thing is certain. Clare needs to solve this mystery, and soon. Because the messages are becoming sinister, and a girl in town has suddenly disappeared.
Clarity was one of my favorite books of 2011 so I had high hopes for Perception. I am so happy to say that it did not disappoint at all. In fact, it was pretty close to the perfect book!
Clare is just as brave, strong, smart, and funny as ever. She is also just a little bit insecure and scared. She’s torn between two great guys, she’s afraid to trust new people, and on top of it all she might have a stalker. Both Justin and Gabriel are great guys but Gabriel stood out for me. He was sweet, protective, and he proved that he really understood Clare. Justin was a good friend and he cracked me up but I didn’t see any chemistry. However I’m pretty sure the best character was Mallory (aside from Clare, of course). She was funny, spunky, brave, and kind. She didn’t care what people thought of her and she was a true friend to Clare.
The plot is super fast-paced. It doesn’t take long at all to be thrust back into a mystery with Clare, one that got creepier with every turn of the page. It’s nearly impossible to put this book down and it will leave you guessing until the stalker and murderer are revealed.
Kim Harrington’s writing style is simple yet amazing. It’s very easy to get used to and it just makes the story flow. It’s not heavily detailed but you are never left wondering if you are missing something. It’s the perfect writing style for a fun, fast-paced YA thriller.
Overall, Perception is a fantastic follow-up to Clarity and I highly recommend it for fans of the first book. I hope this series continues to be this awesome.
Clarity was one of my favorite books of last year as well! I’m glad to hear that Perception is a great follow-up to Clarity. I definitely agree with you about Gabriel, I much prefer him over Justin and agree that Justin and Clare don’t really have that spark that Gabriel and Clare do. I’ll definitely be picking up a copy of this one soon. Great review 🙂
Team Gabriel! I’ve always loved YA mysteries/thrillers and Clarity was fantastic so I can’t wait to read Perception! After reading your review, I think I have to pick it up sooner rather than later!
Fantabulous review 🙂
xx
I have been seeing so many great reviews for this book! I’m sad it’s the second in the series, as I have not read Clarity yet. I’m going to have to remedy that soon so I can get to this goodness!
I have heard the best things about this series. I have the first book and I have still not read it. I’m sad to admit that. I really like that the plot of this book is so fast paced. I love it when books move right along. Thanks for the review 🙂
I loved the first one. I think it was hugely original and I loved her quirky family and her brother. He went through so much!
The love triangle was interesting.
Lovely review 🙂
