In this final installment of the thrilling, edgy Personal Demons series, the battle between Heaven and Hell has become critical, and Frannie Cavanaugh is right at the center of it.

With the help of the powerful angel Gabe and demon-turned-mortal Luc, Frannie has been able to stay one step ahead of the forces of Hell. But when the demons killed Frannie's best friend and destroyed her brother, they raised the stakes. If Frannie wants to keep her family and friends safe, she knows she has no choice but to go on the run.

Their best defense is the power Frannie has been struggling to master, but her attempts to hone her skill go horribly awry. If Frannie doesn't learn fast, the consequences could be devastating--even apocalyptic.

What happens when you can't outrun Hell...or trust the ones you love?

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read the first two books in this trilogy this review will contain spoilers.

Last Rite is the perfect ending to the Personal Demons trilogy.  Lisa Desrochers tied everything up nicely and I was left with a smile on my face.  While I’m sad to say goodbye to the great characters I’m completely satisfied with the way things ended.

Frannie is just as kick-ass as ever but she isn’t quite as spunky as she was in the previous books. A lot has happened and grief has made her a more somber person.  Seeing her upset so much was a very different side of her.  She finally realized that not everything was in her control and it changed her a lot.  However she still managed to retain her spark, she just was a bit more mature.

For the first half of the book Luc was a very different guy than he’d been in the past, at least on the outside.  He was mean, hurtful, and just didn’t seem to care.  However that’s not what he felt on the inside.  It was clear how much Luc loved Frannie and at times I felt so sad for him.  He just couldn’t figure out what was best for both him and Frannie.  Gabe didn’t help matters.  He is a very different Gabe from the first two books.  He’s still kind and caring but he’s become more interested in beating Lucifer than in protecting Frannie.  Also, his feelings for Frannie really came out in this book.  I like Gabe but, no matter what, I’ve always been and always will be Team Luc.

Now there were some cliffhangers from the previous two books but I’m happy to say they were all tied up.  Readers get to find out more about Frannie’s family, including Matt, as well as what Frannie’s true purpose really is.  Some things didn’t come as huge surprises but there were definitely some things I didn’t see coming.

As for the plot, it’s a little slow to pick up but the second half of the book is non-stop surprises and action.  It definitely made up for the first half which was more talk and build-up.  Honestly, it’s impossible to be bored with these books.

Overall, Last Rite is everything readers could want.  I can’t wait to see what Lisa Desrochers does next.

  1. I know of this series, so I didn’t want to get spoiled, but at least it’ll have a good ending. I’m planning to read it.

  2. I have not read this series yet but it sounds very interesting so I will definitely be giving it a try. I love to hear that this is a great conclusion to this series. So many times when I read a series I am disappointed with the last book. I’m glad this isn’t the case for you. Great review, glad that you enjoyed it!

  3. I don’t know why, but I loved Personal Demons as is. To my mind, the second and third books don’t even register. I’m not excited by the idea of finding out what happens next despite how much I liked the first one. I’m all around content pretending Personal Demons is where it stops.

  4. I’m so happy you liked this series!! I haven’t read the books yet, but I know they’ve optioned it for TV, and that would be great!

I read your review, and the characters seem intriguing 🙂

    Lovely review 🙂
