Waiting, Wanting, Wishing is a feature here on Katie’s Book Blog. There are so many books out there that I want to read and this is a good way to spotlight some of them.
This week I am spotlighting some dystopian books I am really looking forward to!
Title: Orleans
Author: Sherri L. Smith
Release date: March 7, 2013
First came the storms.
Then came the Fever.
And the Wall. After a string of devastating hurricanes and a severe outbreak of Delta Fever, the Gulf Coast has been quarantined. Years later, residents of the Outer States are under the assumption that life in the Delta is all but extinct… but in reality, a new primitive society has been born.
Fen de la Guerre is living with the O-Positive blood tribe in the Delta when they are ambushed. Left with her tribe leader’s newborn, Fen is determined to get the baby to a better life over the wall before her blood becomes tainted. Fen meets Daniel, a scientist from the Outer States who has snuck into the Delta illegally. Brought together by chance, kept together by danger, Fen and Daniel navigate the wasteland of Orleans. In the end, they are each other’s last hope for survival.
Seventeen-year-old Eva is a chosen one. Chosen to live, while others meet a swift and painful death from an incurable virus so lethal, a person is dead within days of symptoms emerging. In the POD system, a series of underground habitats built by the government, she waits with the other chosen for the deadly virus to claim those above. Separated from family and friends, it’s in the PODs she meets David. And while true love might not conquer all, it’s a balm for the broken soul.
After a year, scientists believe the population has died, and without living hosts, so has the virus. That’s the theory, anyway. But when the PODs are opened, survivors find the surface holds a vicious secret. The virus mutated, infecting those left top-side and creating… monsters.
Eva and David hide from the infected in the abandoned PODs. Together they try to build a life–a new beginning. But the infected follow and are relentless in their attacks. Leaving Eva and David to fight for survival, and pray for a cure.
Title: Slated
Author: Teri Terry
Release date: January 24, 2013
Kyla has been Slated—her memory and personality erased as punishment for committing a crime she can’t remember. The government has taught her how to walk and talk again, given her a new identity and a new family, and told her to be grateful for this second chance that she doesn’t deserve. It’s also her last chance—because they’ll be watching to make sure she plays by their rules.
As Kyla adjusts to her new life, she’s plagued by fear. Who is she, really? And if only criminals are slated, why are so many innocent people disappearing? Kyla is torn between the need to know more and her instinct for self-preservation. She knows a dangerous game is being played with her life, and she can’t let anyone see her make the wrong move . . . but who can she trust when everyone is a stranger?
Piper’s world is dying.
Each day brings hotter temperatures and heat bubbles that threaten to destroy the earth. Amid this global heating crisis, Piper lives under the oppressive rule of her mother, who suffocates her even more than the weather does. Everything changes on her eighteenth birthday, when her mother is called away on a mysterious errand and Piper seizes her first opportunity for freedom.
Piper discovers a universe she never knew existed—a sphere of gods and monsters—and realizes that her world is not the only one in crisis. While gods battle for control of the Underworld, Piper’s life spirals out of control as she struggles to find the answer to the secret that has been kept from her since birth.
Title: Wasteland

In the wasteland known as Prin, an early death isn’t the only doom waiting around the corner. There’s also the looming threat of rampant disease and brutal attacks by the Variants—hermaphroditic outcasts that live on the outskirts of Prin.
Esther thinks there’s more to life than toiling at Harvesting, Gleaning, and Excavating under the relentless sun, just hoping to make it through another day.
Her best friend, Skar, is a Variant and is considered the enemy. But Levi, who controls the Source, is the real enemy. Esther knows he will send his Taser boys after her if she makes one wrong move.
When Caleb, a brave and mysterious stranger, arrives in town, Esther begins to question who she can trust, and the two outcasts realize that they must team together to fight for their lives and for the freedom of Prin.

I thought, for a moment, that SLATED already came out, but I think I have another book with the same girl on the cover. Or maybe it IS SLATED. Hmm… must investigate my TBR pile.
Slated is already out in the UK so you might have a copy already. =)
I am DEFINITELY interested in Slated. I requested an ARC from Edelweiss but was, of course, denied!
Oooh …. great books! I’m looking forward to Slated — and I love the cover for it! I love a good dystopian read. 🙂
Thanks for sharing!
Ooh Orleans looks GOOD! It reminds me a little of Kelly Keaton’s YA series!
I absolutely loved Slated, it was amazing. You could get a copy on the book depository or abebooks. I couldn’t wait for it to publish here in the US. So I got the UK version.
Dystopian is my favorite! I am really excited for Slated and finally I get to read the synopsis for Wasteland! It sounds so unique and interesting! Thank you for sharing. 🙂
I have just added them all to my wish list. So many great reads.
I can’t wait to read Slated!!
Orleans & Wasteland are high on my list! 🙂 Solstice & Slated have new covers, I like them. I would love to read them. Great picks 🙂
All look interesting, you should add The Judas Syndrome triloyg. It’s new and complete.
I’ve learned I’m very picky with dystopian so I’ll wait for reviews ;P
Orleans sounds really original. I think there’s a little kid involved and there’s no romance.
