Waiting, Wanting, Wishing is a feature here on Katie’s Book Blog. There are so many books out there that I want to read and this is a good way to spotlight some of them.
This week I am spotlighting some end of 2012 releases that I’m dying to read!
Title: Dance Of Shadows
Author: Yelena Black
Release date: November 27, 2012
Vanessa Adler isn’t so sure she really belongs at the School of American Ballet. But dance runs in her family. It’s been a part of her life for as long as she can remember. Her grandmother and mother were prima ballerinas, and her older sister Margaret was, too. That is, until Margaret mysteriously disappeared from school three years ago. Vanessa is heir to the family’s gift and the only person who can fulfill her sister’s destiny. She has no choice.
But she never could have guessed how dangerous the school is. The infamous choreographer, Josef, isn’t just ruthless with his pupils, he guards a sinister secret, one in which the school’s dancers—prized for their beauty, grace, and discipline—become pawns in a world of dark, deadly demons.
A lost colony is reborn in this heart-pounding fantasy adventure set in the near future . . .
Sixteen-year-old Thomas has always been an outsider. The first child born without the power of an Element—earth, water, wind or fire—he has little to offer his tiny, remote Outer Banks colony. Or so the Guardians would have him believe.
In the wake of an unforeseen storm, desperate pirates kidnap the Guardians, intent on claiming the island as their own. Caught between the plague-ridden mainland and the advancing pirates, Thomas and his friends fight for survival in the battered remains of a mysterious abandoned settlement. But the secrets they unearth will turn Thomas’ world upside-down, and bring to light not only a treacherous past but also a future more dangerous than he can possibly imagine.
Title: Flash Point
Author: Nancy Kress
Release date: November 8, 2012
Reality TV meets a chillingly realistic version of America–and the fame game is on!
Amy had dreams of going to college, until the Collapse destroyed the economy and her future. Now she is desperate for any job that will help support her terminally ill grandmother and rebellious younger sister. When she finds herself in the running for a slot on a new reality TV show, she signs on the dotted line, despite her misgivings. And she’s right to have them. TLN’s Who Knows People, Baby–You? has an irresistible premise: correctly predict what the teenage cast will do in a crisis and win millions. But the network has pulled strings to make it work, using everything from 24/7 hidden cameras to life-threatening technology to flat-out rigging. Worse, every time the ratings slip, TLN ups the ante. Soon Amy is fighting for her life–on and off camera.
Sadie can’t wait to get away from her backwards small town, her delusional mom, her jailbird dad, and the tiny trailer where she was raised…even though leaving those things behind also means leaving Brendan. Sadie wants a better life, and she has been working steadily toward it, one con at a time.
But when Sadie’s mother wipes out Sadie’s savings, her escape plan is suddenly gone. She needs to come up with a lot of cash—and fast—or she’ll be stuck in this town forever.
With Brendan’s help, she devises a plan—the ultimate con—to get the money. But the more lies Sadie spins, the more she starts falling for her own hoax…and perhaps for the wrong boy. Sadie wanted to change her life, but she wasn’t prepared to have it flipped upside down by her own deception. With her future at stake and her heart on the line, suddenly it seems like she has a lot more than just money to lose….

Rath will be watching closely to be sure she completes her first assignment-reaping Rick, the boy who should have died. The boy she still wants to be with. To make matters worse, students at the academy start turning up catatonic, and accusations fly-against Molly. The only way out of this mess? To go through hell. Literally.

Great list Katie. All of these look really good. Out of all of these I am probably most excited for Elemental by Antony John and The Almost Truth by Eileen Cook. Both of those just sound really amazing.

While Dance of Shadows isn’t something I might normally read, something about the synopsis made it stand out. I can’t wait for that one, either!
I’m most excited for Dance of Shadows-I adore ballet books and the cover for this one is SO gorgeous!
I love the cover for Dance of Shadows! The paranormal aspect mixed with dancing is something I think I would really enjoy. And I read Elemental a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good! Great list. 🙂

These titles look great! I’m really excited for Undeadly, it looks fantastic! I’m curious to see Antony writing a different genre apart from contemporary. Great picks!
Of all of these, I’m most interested in DANCE OF SHADOWS. That may be mainly because of the cover. Guess I’m shallow.
I am most excited for Undeadly!
DANCE OF SHADOWS and ELEMENTAL are on my list. A great selection.
Seems like a lot of good books:)

Dance of Shadows looks really good!
Dance of Shadow looks like a really good book, and the cover is SO pretty! Flash point seems a little Hunger Games-ish to me, and I am not sure if it was PN or not… I haven’t heard of any of the other books, which is great because now I have more books on my wishlist.
Dance of Shadows seemed so creepy and perfect and then everyone hated it.
Have you read it ?
