Top Ten Tuesday: Favorite Contemporary Authors!

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme created and hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. For more information and a list of past and future topics, go here.

1. Sarah Dessen – I adore every single one of Sarah Dessen’s books.  She does not know how to write a bad book.  They are cute and fun and some of my favorite books to go back and re-read.

2. Sarah Ockler – Sarah Ockler’s first book,  Twenty Boy Summer, was one of the first books I read after I started blogging and I loved it.  I have continued reading Sarah’s books and they just keep getting better.

3. Susane Colasanti – Susane Colasanti writes very fun young adult contemporary books with some deeper meaning to each.  They are quick reads and I love seeing the characters get their happy endings.

4. Stephanie Perkins – Do I even need to say anything about this one?  Anna and Lola are some of my all-time favorite books and everyone should read them!

5. Jenny Han – The Summer trilogy is one of my favorite contemporary trilogies.  That trilogy is too awesome for words.  Her newest book (co-written with Siobahn Vivian), Burn For Burn, is also a great contemporary but very different from the Summer trilogy.

6. Hannah Harrington – I know Hannah Harrington has only written two books but that’s enough for me to know that she is a favorite of mine.

7. Jennifer Echols – Jennifer Echols is another author who can’t write a bad book.  I have read almost all of her books and every one of them I have adored.

8. Miranda Kenneally – Miranda Kenneally is another author that has only written two books but once again, it’s enough for me to know she is a favorite of mine.  I adored both Catching Jordan and Stealing Parker.  I will be reading every book she writes.

9. Elizabeth Eulberg – Elizabeth Eulberg consistently writes fabulous contemporary books.  They are all super fun and cute and quick reads.  Perfect for a rainy day!

10. Nina LaCour – Once again, two books is enough for me to know with this author.  Nina LaCour’s books aren’t quite so light and fluffy as some other contemporary books but that is really what I love about them.

I could really go on and on with this topic but I’ll stop now.

Who are some of your favorite contemporary authors?

  1. Can you believe we did the same genre but only share 2 authors!!?? I’m shocked 😉
I do LOVE most of yours though (the other I just haven’t read yet…LOL), so I’m just going to call it a case of too many awesome authors in this genre!! hehe

  2. LOVE your list!! Twenty Boy Summer is one of my favs! And I pretty much love everyone on your list (except Elizabeth Eulberg, she has to redeem herself for The Lonely Hearts Club).

I did the same category here’s My TTT

  3. Great list! I actually haven’t read anything by Harrington yet, but I have an e-galley of Speechless so I should pick that up. I did just finish Han’s Summer Trilogy and it was fantastic. I’m curious to see where Burn For Burn goes next… not sure it’ll be contemporary much longer.

  4. Great list! I chose this genre, but we share hardly any. That being said, I still love many of your picks!

Also, I have a FANTASTIC giveaway of a SIGNED copy Lauren Oliver’s new book, THE SPINDLERS, going on HERE!

  5. Tbh, I’ve never been a big contemporary fan. I’ll read it but not before a paranormal or fantasy. But I’m really trying to change that because I know there are some great contemporary books out there. Thanks for the list!!!

  6. I haven’t read everyone on your list, but I definitely agree with your first five. I’ve been really hesitant to read Han’s trilogy, but after seeing it on so many lists today I think I’m definitely going to have to read it.

  7. We did the same genre, but only share 4 authors… that’s crazy! I completely forgot about Colasanti, and Han when writing my list! I’ll definitely need to check out the authors who I haven’t read anything by. Great list1

  8. Great list! There are so many wonderful contemporary authors that must have made this post hard to make.

Long ago, I accepted the fact that I am pretty much the only contemporary reader who does not like Sarah Dessen, but sometimes it gets lonely over here:( I completely agree with Perkins, Harrington, Eulberg, and LaCour, though:)

  9. Sarah Dessen was the first author I ever called my favorite. I love that lady! Susane Colasanti’s awesome. Stephanie Perkins! Etienne and Cricket…those boys have my heart. Jenny Han…I’ll love her forever for writing the Summer trilogy. And hey, I’m currently reading Stealing Parker! Miranda’s another awesome author. I’ll read everything she writes, too. Elizabeth Eulberg–I was lucky enough to meet her, and she is just as amazing as her books! And Nina LaCour. That woman makes me cry. And I love it so much. Great picks, Katie!

Have you read any books by Deb Caletti? She writes some good contemps–Stay is my favorite by her.

  10. I was surprised with how much I loved Twenty Boy Summer and Sarah actually left a sweet comment on my review! Extra points lol!

I like most of Sarah Dessen’s work. Also Elizabeth Scott was a favorite contemp author of mine when I started blogging — Stealing Heaven is one of my favorites! Stephanie Perkins is obviously on the list and I’m obligated to say Lurlene McDaniel… because she was one of my all time favorite authors as a kid lol

  11. This is an awesome list to refer people to when they’re just beginning to love contemporary.

I’d add Jennifer Brown and Lindsey Leavitt, as well as Rebekah Crane.
