Today I have the completely fabulous Kelsey from Kelsey R. Dickson!
What are you like outside of blogging?
I’m very outgoing. I love to just grab some friends without warning and go do something crazy and exciting. I love being spontaneous. But I also like being a homebody sometimes. I have a cat and a large assortment of spiced teas.
What made you decide to start your blog?
When I joined Twitter back in 2009, I quickly discovered that book blogs were a thing. I loved reading and wanted a way for my thoughts to reach a wider expanse of people.
What is your best book blogging moment?
Oh man, I’ve had tons of really cool book blogging moments. I think maybe this past month when I hosted my own meme (Lauren DeStefano Recommends Month) and Simon & Schuster sent me books for it. That was pretty awesome.
To help some of the newer bloggers: what have you found to be the best way to network and get your blog out there?
I’ve found that making strong connections with a handful of bloggers and authors helps a lot. These are your “go to” people who usually help spread the word about your posts. Eventually, it will make its way around ZE TWITTER. Also, blog tours. Anytime you see someone talking about hosting a blog tour, jump on that business.
What book turned you on to YA?
Twilight, actually. I read it back in 2006 when it first came out and nobody knew what it was. People would see me reading it and ask what it was about. There wasn’t a big YA genre back then, not like there is now, so a human girl falling in love with a vampire was very taboo. I’d be like, “It’s about a girl who falls in love with a vampire,” and then after getting weird faces would add, “but it’s much better than it sounds!” And back then it WAS good. I’ll be the first to acknowledge that the storyline and writing aren’t fantastic, but it’s still enjoyable. And it really was the first book of its kind for teens, so there wasn’t much to compare it to. I will always appreciate what the Twilight Saga did for the YA genre.
How many books do you own?
Oh my gosh, hundreds.
What are some blogs you recommend reading?
Anna Reads, Reading Teen, Elizziebooks, GReads! and Girls in the Stacks
Favorites:
-Book of all time: My Sister’s Keeper by Jodi Picoult
-New release: Meant to Be by Lauren Morrill
-Genre: YA Fiction
-Place to Read: I typically read in class. Oops.
-TV show: It used to be Smallville until THEY ENDED EVERYTHING. Now it’s The Vampire Diaries.
-Candy: I have recently discovered the delicious and satisfying taste of Raisinets.
-Song: Currently it’s “Where to Now” by Cider Sky
I’ve only recently found Kelsey on twitter and just LOVE her personality (and her hair!!!). Kesley sounds like such an awesome person. Now I must go look at her blog!
she sounds fun
I follow Kelsey on twitter and she sure does seem very outgoing! Thanks for the great interview!
I love the photograph. YA really has blossomed. I can give TWILIGHT it’s due.
I never knew Twilight was considered a bit taboo and risque because a girl falls for a vampire! Now it’s so mainstream it’s overdone 🙂
She seems like a very focused blogger – and her portrait photo is gorgeous 🙂
Thank for these posts Katie!
