There is need. And then there is Fate.
Being destined to become some kind of supernatural electrical outlet isn't exactly awesome--especially when Alexandria's other half is everywhere she goes. Seth's in her training room, outside her classes, and keeps showing up in her bedroom--so not cool. Their connection does have some benefits, like staving off her nightmares of the tragic showdown with her mother, but it has no effect on what Alex feels for the forbidden, pure-blooded Aiden. Or what he will do--and sacrifice--for her.
When daimons infiltrate the Covenants and attack students, the gods send furies--lesser gods determined to eradicate any threat to the Covenants and to the gods, and that includes the Apollyon--and Alex. And if that and hordes of aether-sucking monsters didn't blow bad enough, a mysterious threat seems willing to do anything to neutralize Seth, even if that means forcing Alex into servitude--or killing her.
When the gods are involved, some decisions can never, ever be undone.
Half Blood was a completely awesome start to the Covenant series and I am very happy to say that Pure only adds to the awesomeness. The Covenant series is quickly becoming one of my favorite young adult series.Things have really amped up since Half Blood. Alex has the meeting with the Council coming up and as if that wasn’t bad enough daimons infiltrate the Covenant and start attacking students. Alex of course ends up in the middle of all this and things quickly spiral out of control in her life. Alex never manages to stay out of trouble for long and it definitely makes for a fast-paced, crazy story. She isn’t really a troublemaker, per se, but she always manages to find trouble if it’s out there. I found myself laughing out loud at a lot of her antics but I also found myself tearing up a few times throughout the book. Things really have heated up at the Covenant and nobody is safe anymore, least of all Alex. Alex goes through the complete range of emotions in Pure and readers will be right there with her.
Now I’m sure you are all wondering: what about Seth and Aiden? Well, I’m still totally Team Aiden and readers get to see a very different side of him in Pure, even if it is only for a very short time. Aiden is a very confused guy and I felt really bad for him. It’s pretty clear that he has feelings for Alex but it’s also clear that he can never act on them. He seemed to be going through some inner turmoil at certain parts of the story and by the end I just wanted to shove him and Alex together. They bring out the best in each other and I think they have a great friendship that could be so much more. As for Seth, he’s a player and he’s kind of a jerk. He’s not a bad guy as far as I can tell from this book but he just doesn’t have much going for him, other than his hotness. Sure, he and Alex have this connection but it really doesn’t amount to much more than desire. However he is pretty hilarious and I cracked up so much at the things he did.
Jennifer L. Armentrout’s writing is completely fabulous. It’s nothing beautiful or lyrical but it’s perfect for the story she’s trying to tell. Her writing is descriptive without being overbearing and it flows so perfectly. The story is fast-paced all on its own but her writing really makes the story go by even faster.
The story is just as good as that of Half Bloods, if not better. Like I said, things have really been amped up and the stakes are a lot higher now. Jennifer L. Armentrout isn’t afraid to kill off her characters and it really starts to seem like no one is safe in Pure. Things come out of nowhere and the book is just full of surprises. You won’t be able to put this one down until you turn the very last page!
Overall, Pure is an amazing sequel to Half Blood and the Covenant series is heating up! If Pure is any indication, Deity will be completely fabulous. If you haven’t started this series yet, get on it!

Wow! This one looks good! I wonder if it’s already available in the Philippines. Thanks for sharing!

I’m so glad to hear that this one is so good! I enjoyed Half-Blood and can’t wait to read this one!
Yes, Seth is an arrogant goofball, but he totally had more on me than Aiden. Aiden for a while in Half-Blood began to feel so stock. And that’s not pleasant. Still, I’ve heard that these books get better, so maybe I’ll try out Pure…
I skimmed this review only becuase I didn’t read Half Blood. It sounds like Pure is different but Half Blood was too much like Vampire Academy for my liking.
I loved all the political schemes and plots in this one. I think we really got to see the world of the Pures the way it really is, and not just from her perspective and it was great.
Lovely review 🙂
