Blog Tour: HarlequinTeen’s Reading Into Romance: Guest Post from Katie McGarry!

Spring is in the air and HarlequinTEEN wants you to fall in love! And they have just the books to make that happen!

In this epic tour, we’ll be featuring 9 authors and their amazing, toe-curlingly romantic books!

Today I am so excited to be hosting Katie McGarry as part of the HarlequinTeen Reading Into Romance blog tour.  Her debut novel, Pushing the Limits, made my top 12 books of 2012 and it’s definitely one of my favorites.  You can check out my review here.

“I won’t tell anyone, Echo. I promise.” Noah tucked a curl behind my ear. It had been so long since someone touched me like he did. Why did it have to be Noah Hutchins? His dark brown eyes shifted to my covered arms. “You didn’t do that-did you? It was done to you?” No one ever asked that question. They stared. They whispered. They laughed. But they never asked.
So wrong for each other…and yet so right.

No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with “freaky” scars on her arms. Even Echo can’t remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo’s world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible. Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she’ll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again.

AN INTERVIEW FEATURING BETH AND NOAH!

Beth clears her throat. “Welcome to Beth Risk’s segment on dating advice. Today, you have the privilege of learning from my years of failed, crash and burn, semi-dating relationships.”

The interviewer shifts in her chair. “We asked Echo and Noah for the interview.”

“They sent me. I’m their PR person. Famous people have those.”

“Echo clearly stated in her e-mail that they’d be here at noon.”

“Echo clearly stated,” Beth mimics in a high-pitched voice. “They sent me. Anyhow, onto my first piece of advice: if he’s a jock—run. As fast as you can. But you’re going to have to zigzag because unfortunately they’re fast. Hence the jock part. But they’re easy to fake out. Like if you threw a blanket over their head they’d forget where they’re at.”

“Is this because of your relationship with Luke?”

Beth straightens. “What is this? One of those investigative exposés? I’m not answering questions about Luke. Where’s your recorder? I need to smash it.”

“I don’t have one.”

“Well, you should. Crumpling paper just doesn’t work as well. Now, survival advice item number two—”

“Survival? This is a magazine article on teen dating advice.”

“You call it ice chips. I call it ice cubes. You’re getting caught up in details.”

The door to the office opens. Noah struts in and Beth swears under her breath.

The interviewer brightens. “Noah, it’s nice to see you.”

Noah nods his chin in greeting but stares at Beth. “What are you doing here?”

Beth’s mouth pops open and she sucks in a breath, then collapses back into the chair. “I got nothing.”

“Isaiah’s looking for you. He bought some pizza.”

Beth bolts for the door. “Later.”

Noah settles into the seat and stares at the interviewer. “Echo’s running late.”

The interviewer gestures to the door Beth just closed. “What’s with her?”

“She’s a friend of mine and she’s had a hard time. Look, I’m only here because this meant something to Echo, but I’m not real fond of talking to strangers or…talking.”

The interviewer checks her watch. “I’ve only got a few more minutes so I’ll make this easy on both of us. For all the guys out there wanting to find and keep a girl like Echo, what is your advice to them?”

Noah scratches his forehead then kicks his legs out as he relaxes back. “There’s only one Echo.”

“At least humor me for Echo’s sake.”

“Fine.” Noah shakes his hair over his eyes. “I’m attracted to Echo and she’s attracted to me, but it’s more than hot kisses between us. She’s my best friend and the way she treats me—I try to treat her the same way back. She listens and she makes me laugh and when I need silence, she gives it while letting me know she’s there. I want her to feel special so I find ways to prove she is. I make Echo her favorite burger at the end of my shift and bring it to her. I remember stuff, like when she feels sad she likes listening to Adele or that she’ll be thirsty an hour after she has pizza so I always have a bottle of water on hand. She’s not looking for diamonds or the moon. She’s just looking to know I care.”

The interviewer’s pencil moves across the page. “Thanks, Noah. Echo is clearly lucky to have a guy like you.”

He stands. “You’re welcome. But you have it backwards, I’m the lucky one. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to fire my self-hired PR person.”

I love both Beth and Noah in this interview.  Beth is so feisty and I can’t wait to read about her in Dare You To (out on June 7, 2013 from HarlequinTeen.)  And do I even need to say anything about Noah?  He’s so dang cute!

  1. With all the NA I’ve been reading lately, I think it’s impossible to pick just ONE! Ones that have made a big impression on me include Lucas from Easy, Cam from Wait For You, and of course, Noah from Pushing the Limits. Oh, and Will from Slammed.

  2. ASH!! I adore him from Julie Kagawa’s Iron Fey series. Over the course of the series he gets even more “de-iced”…But he’s like the sweetest guy ever! (in my view) I loved this “interview” Hilarious 😀 I must get Pushing The Limits now….
P.S.I have many other favorites, but Ash was of the top of my head and main favorite.

  3. Alex Fuentes. I agree with Maryse. He’s so hot! And of course Noah is amazing…just listen to his answer about Echo. I loved the interview. Can’t wait for Beth’s story!

  4. Will Herondale!!! Who wouldn’t love a book loving, duckfearing, blue eyed boy?! and Patch Ciparico(?) from Hush Hush. “If you can’t feel, why did you kiss me?”
Patch traced a finger along my collarbone, then headed south stopping at my heart. I felt it pounding through my skin. “Because I feel it here, in my heart,” he said quietly.” Need I say more?

  5. Even in an interview Beth rocks!! I love her attitude and she’s so very funny!!

These character interviews are my favorite Guest Posts and it’s a wonderful way for the author to gain new fans and get people to buy her book because they’re so representative of the story and characters!
