My Latest Obsession: Dexter!

My Latest Obsession is a new post that I will be doing every now and then featuring something I’m obsessed with. It could be anything from a song to a cartoon character, it all just depends on my mood.

Are you noticing a theme with these posts?  Clearly I’m obsessed with TV shows.

My latest obsession is the TV show Dexter!

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve probably seen me talk about Dexter lately.  I recently watched all 7 seasons of Dexter.  Yes, I know, I’m crazy.  I just couldn’t help myself though.  Once I started the series, I couldn’t stop.

If you’ve never heard of Dexter, I’ll give you a little background.  Dexter is a show on Showtime.  There are currently 7 seasons with 12 episodes each season.  June 30 begins the 8th season of Dexter and most likely, the last season.  Dexter, himself, is a very lovable serial killer.  He works as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami Metro homicide department and when he’s not working he hunts down serial killers and kills them.  Other members of the cast include his sister, Debra, his girlfriend, Rita, and other members of the police force.
The cast is definitely what makes this show so awesome.  Michael C. Hall as Dexter is brilliant.  I wasn’t sure what to think about him for the first few episodes but I quickly came to love him.  He’s definitely very messed up and kind of creepy but I think a lot of people will still like him.  He is a good guy at heart.  Then there is Deb who is probably my favorite character ever.  She is blunt, she cusses a lot, and she’s kind of  crazy but those are all things that make her awesome.  She’s smart and funny as well and I loved seeing her progression throughout the series.  The rest of the Miami Metro homicide department is also pretty great.  There’s Vince Masuka who is totally perverted but so funny.  Angel Batista is sweet and kind of awkward and he quickly became a favorite of mine.  Lieutenant LaGuerta wasn’t that great at first but she grew on me. There are some more cast members introduced throughout the series but these are my favorites.
The plot is always crazy.  Each season there is a new serial killer that is the focus of the Miami Metro Homicide Department’s investigation.  Of course, the same serial killer is usually the focus of Dexter’s own personal manhunt as well.  The serial killers get progressively creepier as the show goes on and I loved that.
I’m not really squeamish or scared easily when it comes to things like this so I never had problems with this show but obviously I wouldn’t really recommend it for people who don’t like blood or murder.  It’s not my normal type of show but I’m so glad I finally decided to watch it.
Do you watch Dexter?  What do you think of it?

  1. Dexter is amazing! I can only imagine how good it is when you can sit down and watch all seven seasons back to back instead of having to wait a week between episodes (and even longer between seasons!) because it’s soooo suspenseful!

  2. I love Dexter, too!! My husband and I used to watch it, but I think he stopped watching before the 5th season … I keep telling him he needs to get back to watching it because it’s crazy! I can’t believe the next season is the last … makes me sad. 🙁

    Glad you love this!!

  3. I’ve been doing a “sunday obsession” feature on my blog because I also become obsessed with things quite easily! I was obsessed with Dexter during seasons 1-5. But then it got annoying to me, so I stopped. But I really want to catch up!

  4. Haha I know it’s been a while since people last commented but I find myself so crazy over dexter. I have stayed up until 5 for nights in a row watching the show because it is on demand and I feel so attached. Oh why did it have to end!!! I sketch drawings if it and I will admit that I feel like I love dexter. He is just so perfect it isn’t fair that it is fake. Hahaha I must sound insane!

  5. I totally love him! I love seeing how he grew into a good father and husband and then dealt with being a single dad and caring for everyone. He was so awkward and now he’s normal and expresses him feelings!
