This December I am once again hosting some of my favorite bloggers here on Katie’s Book Blog. I asked them to pick a few of their favorite books from 2013 and their one most anticipated book of 2014.
Today I have Giselle from Book Nerd!
Best Debut Novel
Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke
There’s nothing better than a creepy read, and Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was a pretty creeptastic read. I loved how the two characters were involved with the mysteries surrounding their little town. Really liked this one!
Best Start of Series
Splintered by A.G. Howard
This was one original take on an Alice and Wonderland retelling. The setting was just so very different than what I thought it could be and there’s also a darker and sinister twist in this one.
Best Series Finale
Champion (Legend #3) by Marie Lu
A fabulous ending to a wonderful trilogy. Champion gave me all the feels and my heart felt so much for Day and June. A must-read for any dystopian fan!
Best Standalone
Out of the Easy by Ruta Sepetys
The writing is fluid, humorous, infectious and downright entertaining! I couldn’t stop reading until the very end.
Best Unexpected Favorite
Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas
I was surprised at how much I loved this one. It’s such a creepy thriller! You wouldn’t be able to tell that this book has plot twists and turns, just by judging the cover, but it does. Couldn’t put this one down!
Best All Around
Endless (The Violet Eden Chapters #4) by Jessica Shirvington
I felt so strongly for Violet in this book. The fast paced writing blew me away until I hit the final pages. Here’s a book that has highs and lows for all the characters, plus a plot that keeps chugging along. I loved every bit of it. Best one in the series yet.
Most Anticipated 2014 Release!
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
What do you guys think of Willa’s choices? Do you agree with any of them? Are there any you’ve been meaning to read?
Make sure to check back tomorrow for the next blogger’s picks!
What a fun series of posts! I second OUT OF THE EASY. It’s an absorbing book that, for me, had a whole lot more warmth and heart than Sepetys’ first novel.
Ruta Sepetys can do no wrong, that’s what I think.
She tackles difficult periods in history and difficult, challenging characters and makes you love them and root for them to find hope.
