Bloggers’ Best of 2013: Emilie’s Book World!

This December I am once again hosting some of my favorite bloggers here on Katie’s Book Blog.  I asked them to pick a few of their favorite books from 2013 and their one most anticipated book of 2014.
Today I have Emilie from Emilie’s Book World!

I’m Emilie and I’ve been blogging for about 3.5 years now. As many of the books I’ve chosen might indicate, I love all things contemporary YA. Outside of blogging, I recently graduated university and now work in public affairs and communications. I also drink too much coffee and watch way too much TV.

Best Debut Novel

The Beginning of Everything by Robyn Schneider

This book gave me so many feels. This book had some of my favorite characters in YA and one of those stories that just made my heart melt. But it’s also fun and quirky and smart and there’s just so much in this book that is pure awesomeness.

Best Start of Series

The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey

This was a surprisingly difficult category to choose a book for. Looking through everything I’ve read in 2013, I realized that I haven’t started that many new series, I’ve just read the conclusions to a lot of them. But The 5th Wave was not only the best start to a series I’ve read, but it was also an all-around fantastic book and one that took me completely by surprise. And like any good start to a series, it left me desperate for more!

Best Series Finale

Goddess (Starcrossed #3) by Josephine Angelini

I have absolutely loved Josephine Angelini’s trilogy from the start and I couldn’t have asked for a better ending than Goddess. To me this feels like an underrated series but it’s SO GOOD. There was just so much that came together and fell into place in a way that tied up all the loose ends that needed tying up. It was just perfect to me.

Best Standalone

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen
I’ve always been a huge Sarah Dessen fan and I was so excited to finally be able to read one of her books. I loved The Moon and More and it reminded me why I love Sarah Dessen and her Colby beach stories. It’s the kind of book that just makes you feel good.

Best Unexpected Favorite

How to Love by Katie Cotugno
Before I started reading, I knew that I had a very high chance of loving How To Love, I just didn’t expect to love it quite as much as I did. But right when I started reading I knew it would become a favorite and I have since been pushing it on all my friends–to the point they’re probably sick of hearing me talk about it. I just loved this story so much.

Best All Around

Crash Into You (Pushing the Limits #3) by Katie McGarry
This is asking for the impossible but I’m going to have to say Crash Into You by Katie McGarry. I ADORED this book. And I mean hugging-the-book-to-myself-when-I-finished-reading ADORED. I fell irrevocably in love with the characters and the story and I just can’t say enough good things about this book.

Most Anticipated 2014 Release!

Take Me On (Pushing the Limits #4) by Katie McGarry

Again, how am I supposed to pick just one? But keeping with my Best All Around choice, I’m going to have to say Take Me On by Katie McGarry. I love Katie McGarry’s stories and after reading Crash Into You, I can’t wait to read about West’s story.

What do you guys think of Emilie’s choices?  Have you read any of them?  Do you agree with her about any of them?

Make sure to check back tomorrow for the next blogger’s picks!

  1. Crash Into You was actually my least favorite of the series so far which really bummed me out. However I am SO looking forward to Take Me On. The Moon and more was good but I thought it could have been better. How to Love, The 5th Wave and The Beginning of Everything are already on my TBR 🙂

  2. Oh Sarah Dessen! I wish she could write a book a minute, I’d read them all.

She’s so good writing about real life and real characters and becoming a stronger, better person and accepting others with love 🙂
