This December I am once again hosting some of my favorite bloggers here on Katie’s Book Blog. I asked them to pick a few of their favorite books from 2013 and their one most anticipated book of 2014.
Today I have Rie from Mission to Read!
I’m a total geek. I love technology, books, gaming, and am a Sherlockian, Whovian who also adores Lost Girl and Supernatural. I obsess over the latest gadget and political drama.
I began my book blog in December 2010. I started the blog in an attempt to share my love of reading and to keep a record of what I’ve read and if I liked it or not. Since starting the blog I’ve found people that have exceeded my expectations in kindness and professionalism.
Best Debut Novel & Best Start of Series
Pivot Point by Kasie West
This book seemed to usher in a new subgenre of YA, one I have throughly enjoyed, dual realities. It’s so interesting to see how choices can affect every aspect of one’s life.
Best Series Finale
When The Stars Threw Down Their Spears (Goblin Wars #3) by Kersten Hamilton
I waited forever before finally purchasing this book, but I would just look on it on my To Buy List and salivate. It was a great motivator to finish off some of my TBR pile before I would allow myself to get this one. And it so DID NOT disappoint.
Best Standalone
Goodbye, Rebel Blue by Shelley Coriell
Rebel, the main character, is hilarious and witty with tons of snark keeping people away from her. I loved this book so much that I immediately sent it out to my Book BFF in order for her to fall in love as well.
Best Unexpected Favorite
Etiquette & Espionage by Gail Carriger
This is my first Steampunk novel that I actually enjoyed and did I ever enjoy it. It falls on the younger side of YA.
Best All Around
Never Fade (The Darkest Minds #2) by Alexandra Bracken
Alexandra Bracken knows how to pull all the strings to make me submit to all the feels! Although, it was a slow start it culminated in a heart wrenching story that made me fall even deeper in love with the characters.
Most Anticipated 2014 Release!
Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
A retelling of Wizard of OZ where Dorothy is the villain? Yes, please!
What do you guys think of Rie’s choices? Do you agree with any of them? Are there any you’ve been meaning to read?
Make sure to check back tomorrow for the next blogger’s picks!
I just have to say, I LOVE those little goodreads Add Book buttons! My TBR list is going to get crazy.
Omg an Evil Dorothy!? Want! *Bashes add book button*
Right??? I’m so excited for this book. It looks so amazing. An even darker bent on Wizard of OZ? I’m so there.
SERIOUSLY WANT DOROTHY MUST DIE!! Hahaha I saw it on a WoW a few months back and I just know it’s going to be an amazing read! I haven’t read Goodbye, Rebel Blue but I have heard good reports and feel I need to give it a shot.

You totally should check out Goodbye, Rebel Blue! It’s so good.
Thanks for having me over, Katie! I had fun putting together my answers for this!
Hi, Rie!! I’ve followed Rie for a few years now. Her blog always looks fantastic!
I seriously need to read PIVOT POINT!! I’ve heard many great things about it, and it’s nice seeing it as a top pick for you, Rie!
Totally agree with this blogger about Alexandra Bracken’s novel!! She’s a wonderful writer, and even in a plot-heavy book, it’s her characters that really shine 🙂
