Bloggers’ Best of 2013: The Perpetual Page-Turner!

This December I am once again hosting some of my favorite bloggers here on Katie’s Book Blog.  I asked them to pick a few of their favorite books from 2013 and their one most anticipated book of 2014.
I’m Jamie and I blog at The Perpetual Page-Turner and also The Broke and the Bookish. I’m a 28 year old married lady who actually can’t believe she’s that old. I have an eclectic taste in books and I love talking about them on my blog where the mood is as if we are just two friends drinking margaritas, eating some chips and guac and talking about books and life and other awesome things. I like exploring, drinking tea, frolicking, spending time with my baby nieces and having spontaneous dance parties — especially in the car.

Best Debut Novel

Wild Awake by Hilary T. Smith
This was quite the reading experience and it just blew me away with it’s gorgeous prose and the way that it was just a visceral reading experience — I could feel Kiri’s frenetic energy.  Very vivid imagery! (Review)

book cover of The Program by Suzanne Young

Best Start of Series

The Program by Suzanne Young
WOW. I’m obsessed with this one. I read it very quickly and just loved the premise of it and the execution did not fail me. (Review)

book cover of Boundless by Cynthia Hand

Best Series Finale

Boundless (Unearthly #3) by Cynthia Hand

I stink at finishing series but Boundless by Cynthia Hand was such a crazy awesome last book. I devoured it. I have feelings about the ending but I will not spoil! (Review)

book cover of Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan

Best Standalone

Two Boys Kissing by David Levithan
There are not enough words to explain how amazing this book is. I think it’s my favorite of his at this point and I LOVED Every Day last year. It’s so hard to pick because I’ve read some great books this year but I have to go with this one because you don’t even WANT to know how many pages I dogearred in this book. A LOT. (Review)

Best Unexpected Favorite

This Song Will Save Your Life by Leila Sales
I thought I would like it but I thought it was more a cute, fluffy read but it was very emotional and one of my favorites of the year!! (Review)

book cover of Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

Best All Around

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
Such a toss up between this one and Fangirl which also released from her this year but this one was just one of THOSE kind of reading experiences. I was charmed and I was gutted and it was awesome. (Review)

Most Anticipated 2014 Release!

book cover of Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi
Ignite Me (Shatter Me #3) by Tahereh Mafi
OH MAN. I would say Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi. I NEED THAT BOOK SOMETHING FIERCE. If you haven’t started this series yet, people, get on that!! I have to tell you that, if I hadn’t already read it, that We Were Liars by E. Lockhart would be competing for this spot.

What do you guys think of Jamie’s choices?  Do you agree with any of them?  Are there any you’ve been meaning to read?

Make sure to check back tomorrow for the next blogger’s picks!

I would definitely agree with This Song Will Save Your Life as an unexpected favorite! I also thought it would be cute and light but with some serious undertones, but I was surprised by its emotional impact and depth.

YAY for Boundless, and for This Song will Save Your Life (the narrator was so different, but you totally loved her 🙂
