Short Story Saturday was created by Lauren at 365 Days of Reading. I can’t guarantee that I’ll post a review every Saturday but I will post one as often as I can!
I am currently reading Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions.
Short Story: Things About Love
Author: Jackson Pearce
Anthology: Enthralled: Paranormal Diversions
Things About Love is set in the world of As You Wish. If you haven’t read As You Wish, you might be a little confused but it’s not too bad. You’ll get the gist of things pretty quickly. However, there just wasn’t enough time to make this short story really interesting or appeal to me.
Juliet and Lawrence were odd characters. Juliet was on earth to discover the truth about love. Lawrence was just her excuse to be there. They were an odd pair and I couldn’t really see them as friends especially since Juliet was rather annoying. She was supremely naïve and it really got on my nerves. I understand she’s not from earth but she just seemed dumb. Maybe other people won’t feel that way about her but that’s how it was for me. I liked Lawrence but I felt like I couldn’t really connect to him in such a short period of time.
The story was cute but predictable. There was nothing unexpected about it. I saw every last thing coming from a mile away. That’s another reason I just didn’t care for this story. I wanted something to surprise me and it just didn’t.
Overall, this is my least favorite story from this anthology so far. It was cute but just lacking in too many ways.

I totally agree with u! I loved ‘As you Wish’ by Jackson Pearce and was super excited about this short. But unfortunately I too seemed to not like it that much. Currently I am reading Enthralled as well. And compared to other shorts this one wasn’t that great.

Short stories are either excellent if you know the world they’re set in, or hard to get into because of length constraints. I think novellas are better, even if you’ve never read the other books, because there’s more time for the author to develop the characters and world.
Love the author though!! 🙂
