Quarantine has been wonderful for my Netflix list. I’ve added so many shows and movies to my list over the years and yet I pretty much just watch the same things over and over instead of actually starting a new show/movie. The other night I decided it was past time to try out one of the movies on my list and After was the winner!
First, I have not read the book series yet so maybe I’ll revisit my thoughts on the movie after I read the books. I don’t know when that will happen though since the books are pretty long and I’ve already got way too many books on my TBR.
I do not claim to be a movie reviewer but here are my thoughts, literally typed up as I watched the movie.
- Extremely melodramatic
- Very little plot
- Good chemistry between the main characters
- Tessa was played by Josephine Langford and Hardin was played by Hero Fiennes Tiffin (who you may also recognize as a young Tom Riddle from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince!)
- I admit, I have never heard of these actors until now but they worked well together.
- I loved Tessa’s roommate (right up until the end when it turned out she was a little shady!)
- Hardin was pretty predictable.
- Tortured soul with a dark past, anyone?
- Tessa didn’t seem to have much personality
- I honestly hate this so much about these stories in general. The male love interest seems to have so much more depth than the female lead.
- Soundtrack was great – probably the best thing about the movie
- You can check it out on Spotify or purchase it on Amazon!
- Super cheesy and exactly like the movie She’s All That
- If you’re a 90s kid like me, you’ll see the similarities. After just same across a little more cheesy and dramatic and obviously a bit more modern.
- Would have liked something more at the end – it felt a little abrupt
- This can be explained by the fact that there is a sequel! I admit, I will be watching it.
Overall, After is not exactly what I would call film-making genius but it was a fun way to waste an hour and a half of my time. I don’t know that I’ll ever feel the urge to watch it again but as I said, I will be checking out the sequel.
After can be seen on these viewing platforms!
If you’ve already seen After, make sure to watch the trailer for After We Collided.
Right now, I think it is okay to enjoy a movie that just lets you escape. I’ve been chipping away at my watchlist as well. I recently watched the Netflix film, The Highwaymen about the capture of Bonnie and Clyde. It was fantastic!
