Trust doesn’t come easily when you’ve been running for as long as I have, which is why moving in with a man I barely know is such a bad idea.
Shepard Colson is all golden-boy charm and devastating good looks. But I know what it’s like to be taken in by easy smiles and the promise of forever—I have the scars to prove it.
Only the handsome contractor won’t stop coming by the bakery and prying little truths from my lips. Those amber eyes of his seeing far too much. And when all the secrets come crashing down, he’s determined to keep me safe. Even if it means moving into my rundown cabin to do it.
Now, Shep isn’t just rebuilding the walls of my home, he’s working his way into my heart. Suddenly, he’s everywhere: shirtless in my garden or in a towel coming out of my bathroom. And my resolve is no match.
Only it’s more than his golden looks. It’s him. The way he watches for my wounds but tells me I’m stronger than anyone he’s ever known. And I can’t help but fall.
But I should’ve known better than to think I could be happy. Not when a ghost from my past still has me in his sights. And when he finds me, he’ll do anything to tear my life apart, even if it means ending it for good…

My thoughts:
Delicate Escape, the second book in the Sparrow Falls series, was enjoyable enough but didn’t live up to the first book.
I didn’t get the same sense of connection with Shep and Thea as I did with Anson and Rhodes. Shep came across a little too perfect with an annoying white knight complex. There was nothing wrong with Thea as a character, I just love her. I never felt like I got a true sense of her personality. I felt horrible for what she went through and proud of every step she made to take back her life but there was no deeper connection to her character. She and Shep together worked though. Their personalities meshed really well but the sparks just weren’t there when it came to their relationship. I didn’t get a real sense of chemistry between the two of them and there were times when the dialogue felt quite cheesy and overdone.
The plot was a bit disjointed. Without spoiling anything, there were two major plot points and one of them felt completely unnecessary. It almost felt like this second storyline was added just to make the stakes higher. To me, it didn’t make sense to the characters that we were introduced to in the beginning of the book.
As for spice, this one was relatively tame. As I said, the chemistry wasn’t that great with the two of them but it was by no means bad. The spice was done well and it was entertaining.
Overall, Delicate Escape failed to live up to my expectations but not enough that I’ll stop reading this series. To be fair, I thought that Shep was the least interesting member of the Colson family before reading this one so I believe I’ll enjoy the books of the other siblings more.
TL;DR
If you’re a fan of Catherine Cowles’ previous books and enjoyed the first book in the Sparrow Falls series, there is a good chance that you will enjoy this one.
