Vera Gallagher is chasing constant. For four years, her life was anything but normal. And the years before that she refuses to even remember. Dwelling on the past only hurts. Life is fragile, a lesson her mother taught her well. She’s determined not to waste a moment of her newfound freedom.
Maybe some would consider her crush on Mateo Eden wasted time. Maybe some would call her a fool for loving a man who hasn’t once dropped a crumb of interest her way. Still, to Vera, it’s Mateo or nothing.
He’s handsome. Charming. Witty. And he loves his family the way Vera loves—with her whole heart.
Maybe he’ll never notice her. Maybe she’s too damaged, too broken, to find that normal life she craves. Maybe her secrets will always keep them apart. But Vera will love him anyway. Whether Mateo realizes it or not.
An unrequited love, small town romance.

My thoughts:
SPOILER WARNING: If you have not read the first five books in the Edens series, this review may contain minor spoilers.
The final chapter in the Edens series has cemented my love for Devney Perry. The series may not have been flawless but it came damn close. As far as Mateo and Vera’s story, Sable Peak was perfection.
These characters have a permanent place in my heart. I loved seeing all of the Edens together for the last time but I truly loved seeing more of Mateo and Vera. Both of them had so much more to them than previously shown. Mateo was a lot deeper than he appeared in the previous books but the introduction of his daughter, Allie, had a lot to do with that. He grew so much between his relationships with both Allie and Vera. Vera’s growth over the course of the book was great to see. She missed out on so much in the years she was on the run and she had a lot of catching up to do. Mateo and the Edens really helped her with that. While she was always a strong woman, her relationship with Mateo (and Allie) helped her blossom into a confident woman who wasn’t afraid to lean on others.
The plot wasn’t as intense or fast-paced as the previous books but it was still gripping. This one was much more character based than the past five. It was more focused on the growth of Mateo and Vera, both together and apart. That’s not to say there wasn’t some mystery surrounding Vera’s dad but it felt like more of a minor plot point.
The chemistry between Mateo and Vera was perfect. I would classify this one as a little bit of a slow burn but it worked for them. With the two of them being friends for so long, it just made sense for them to ease into the new relationship they were building rather than jumping all in. There was definitely tension between them but it took a while for things to actually happen.
Overall, I’m sad to say goodbye to the Edens but this ending was perfect. Sable Peak left me satisfied and smiling.
TL;DR
No notes. Perfect ending to the Edens series. This series has everything: romance, family, spice, and suspense. If you haven’t read it yet, this is your year. You won’t regret it.
