Hazel is given a one-two punch when she's forced to move out of her Upper East Side apartment and is given a final warning from her publisher.

If she doesn't turn in a book by her next deadline, they're cutting her loose.

Hazel rashly decides to leave what's left of her city life behind and impulse buys a house in rural Pennsylvania sight unseen. How better to entertain the loyal readers she still has and rediscover her writing mojo than immersing herself in small-town life?

Too bad this town looks to be on its last legs. At least she's finding swoon-worthy inspiration from her hot, grumpy contractor Cam and his animal-rescuing, community-involved family. It's all just research. What could go wrong?

My thoughts:

Lucy Score is the queen of romcoms and Story of My Life is no exception. The small town of Story Lake and it’s quirky but charming inhabitants will steal your heart.

Down-on-her-luck romance writer Hazel Hart is impossible not to love. She has had a string of bad luck and she’s almost given up. After a late night house purchase, she and her best friend/literary agent set out to find inspiration and a new start in Story Lake.

The characters absolutely made this story work. Lucy Score has a particular type of heroine that she tends to stick with but it works. Hazel is fun and quirky while also a little pessimistic. Cam is her grumpy hero (also a staple for Lucy.) While there were times that Cam toed the line between grump and outright asshole, I still loved him. He and Hazel had chemistry from the moment they met.

Hazel and Cam weren’t the only ones that made Story Lake the ideal town though. The secondary characters stole the show at times. Teen mayor Darius, Cam’s siblings, the goofy locals; all of them helped make it work. This is a town I look forward to revisiting in future books.

The story itself was a little drawn out but fun enough that I never felt my interest wane. I do think this one was longer than strictly necessary with some repetition and the pacing in the beginning may turn some readers away. In my opinion, it is worth it to stick with it.

Overall, Story of My Life isn’t perfect but it’s another enjoyable read from Lucy Score. It’s entertaining and will leave you with a smile on your face.

TL;DR

Lucy Score, the queen of romantic comedies, has done it again. Story of My Life sets up the town of Story Lake, it’s cast of quirky characters, and a bevy of perfect romance novel heroes. Fans of her previous books will thoroughly enjoy this latest from her.
