In Ponderosa Springs, this version of Romeo and Juliet isn’t a tragedy. It’s war.

Jude Sinclair is West Trinity Falls’ favorite exiled loner.

Cocky. Insufferably hot. Family foe.

Raised across the tracks in a rival town, he reeks of trouble. Which is the one thing I’ve always had a problem avoiding and now that he’s just down the hall, it’s harder to resist the pull.

My father made one rule when Jude moved in, never trust a Sinclair.

The last thing I need is for my new foster brother to make me question my loyalty with his filthy smirks and poet tongue. But with every forbidden kiss and secret hookup, I quickly find myself faced with two options.

Betray my family? Or betray my heart?

My thoughts:

Monty Jay may have just made an instant fan of me with Wrath of an Exile. It’s not often that an author can impress me with nothing but a few pages but I was hooked from the very start with this one.

Let me start by saying that you should read this one for no other reason than the absolutely haunting, lyrical prose. If the rest of Monty Jay’s books are as gorgeously written as this one then they will have a new superfan. Narrowing down my favorite quotes was damn near impossible. This book had me in tears at times just from the writing.

Fair warning, this is a dark romance and it was a heavy read at times but it was so well done. Seraphina and Jude both had horrors in their pasts but I loved seeing them overcome them together. One of the realest things about them was that they didn’t just move on from their pasts and neither ‘fixed’ the other. They were beautifully broken souls who, together, still managed to find the light.

Jude and Seraphina were both amazing. Seraphina was a take-no-shit baddie. Jude was a tortured soul with the heart of a poet and the mouth of a sailor. Lord but could that man dirty talk.

The story was fast-paced while not being extremely plot heavy. This was very much a character focused book. There was a little suspense but pretty much only at the end. With that being said, it is a pretty long book for not much plot but I can’t say that I minded.

Overall, Wrath of an Exile is a great place to start if you’re new to Monty Jay’s books, like me. It’s dark, it’s extremely spicy, it’s emotional, but in the end, it was just a truly enjoyable read that I could not get enough of.

FYI: It is a spin off series and while I plan to check out the other series, I didn’t feel like I was missing any crucial information for this one.

TL;DR

My first Monty Jay book but definitely not my last. This might be the start of a new obsession. This one has absolutely gorgeous writing that had me highlighting so many passages. I loved the characters and can’t wait for more of this family in future novels. The spice was absolutely perfect and extremely hot. Plot was a little lacking but I didn’t even really care.
