THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING

A net of shadows begins to tighten around the Shadowhunters of the London Institute. Mortmain plans to use his Infernal Devices, an army of pitiless automatons, to destroy the Shadowhunters. He needs only one last item to complete his plan: he needs Tessa Gray.

Charlotte Branwell, head of the London Institute, is desperate to find Mortmain before he strikes. But when Mortmain abducts Tessa, the boys who lay equal claim to her heart, Jem and Will, will do anything to save her. For though Tessa and Jem are now engaged, Will is as much in love with her as ever.

As those who love Tessa rally to rescue her from Mortmainโ€™s clutches, Tessa realizes that the only person who can save her is herself. But can a single girl, even one who can command the power of angels, face down an entire army?

Danger and betrayal, secrets and enchantment, and the tangled threads of love and loss intertwine as the Shadowhunters are pushed to the very brink of destruction in the breathtaking conclusion to the Infernal Devices trilogy.

Since I obviously don’t want to spoil this one for anyone who has yet to read it (what are you waiting for?) I’ll keep this review short and sweet.  Let me just tell you, Cassandra Clare does not disappoint with this final installment.  While it wasn’t as action-packed as I’d expected, all my questions were answered and I was definitely satisfied with how things turned out.
The love triangle has always been a huge deal in the Infernal Devices trilogy.  I’ve always been team Jem but guys, my loyalty was tested with Clockwork Princess!  I wouldn’t say I was totally team Will throughout this one but I was pretty close to converting.  Ever since the events of the second book, Will is a very different person and I couldn’t help but love him.  I still found Jem to be amazingly sweet and lovable but I was torn.  I really don’t know that I could have chosen between the two.  Having said that, the ending was beyond perfect as far as the guy Tessa chose.  Read it and see what I mean.
The whole thing with Mortmain was a little lackluster to me but I did like how everything tied together in the end.  I wasn’t quite sure how Tessa was going to play into Mortmain’s plans but everything was explained in Clockwork Princess and I was satisfied with the story yet not completely in love with it.  I would have liked more action between the Shadowhunters and the Automatons but I guess you can’t get everything.
Overall, Clockwork Princess is a must read for fans of this series.  If you haven’t already read it, get on that right now!
Also, fair warning: you will probably cry.  I did.  A lot.

  1. yeah, i thought the part about mortmain, the big showdown, if you will, was kinda…anticlimatic? but otherwise, great book. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I remember loving the first book when it came out, but I just couldn’t get into the second one. It’s still on hold lol. I really need to finish this series up and I can’t wait to find out how CC ended the love triangle.

  3. I agree that the action with Mortmain was lacking, but it was still a really great book. And I was a Team Jem fan from the beginning, but I’m happy with the ending. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. You know, I was a little surprised that there wasn’t a bigger production with Mortmain too. I even read that one scene twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything. But I was so focused on the love triangle to be really bothered much. I’m glad you liked this conclusion too. And oh man, I cried a lot as well. ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. I haven’t read Clockwork Princess yet because I’m terrified. I’m scared of crying and being an emotional mess, I’m nervous about all the feels I’ll be getting. And the whole Jem/Will thing stresses me out so much. I don’t really like love triangles. It’s just, how can someone love two people the same? I mean, I guess some people feel that way, but it isn’t how I am. I’m not judging by any means, but it makes me stressed out!

I really need to read it though, because soon I’ll be the only one who hasn’t!!

  6. I really liked the ending! I liked who she ended up with (I liked him from the very beginning) and I also liked how the other love interest survived and they might have a chance.

It was a perfect end to the series and I admit I peeked at the family tree on the inside cover before reading the book to see if she ends up with the boy I liked.

    Lovely review!
